And they're saying Episode 7 is coming in 2015 (assuming of course we make it through december).
Not sure how I feel, but I like Disney better than Lucas so it's probably an improvement.

It's probably reasonable to assume that everyone probably would be able to figure out that "Episode 7" is a reference to a seventh film in the Star Wars series (presumbly the first of a new trilogy taking place after the events of the original trilogy, I would guess), but on the outside chance that it is not clear, I will belabor the obvious.
Interesting news. Not all that surprising, although I can't say that I saw it coming.

It's pretty clear that he is NOT directing. In an article that I saw at CNN, it specificallly said that he was "retiring". No word, however, as to who will be directing. Who knows, maybe it will be a case of out of the frying pan and into the fire.

I would think Lucas is done with Star Wars, except in an advisory role.
From last January (this has been in the works for some time btw);
(I was too lazy to find the NY Times article, so you'll have to deal with "MarySue")
That sounds to me like he is done.
I'm one of the few people on the planet who don't hate Lucas as a director. American Graffiti and Star Wars IV were excellent films. I didn't see THX 1138, and I thought some of Episodes I and II were good (sue me).
Yeah I didn't like Episode III much at all, but I have seen worse directors.

I was laughing out loud when I saw articles questioning if Disney would RUIN Star Wars. My first thought was always that they could SAVE it!

I hope they do a better job than Lucas did with these last 3 movies (or first 3 movies, however you want to look at it). Like Holby said, there are parts of them that aren't terrible, but the parts that were bad were really awful!
(I love that tweet, Alatar. I sent it to a friend who was super excited last night when he heard the news.)

Separating Star Wars from Lucas could be the best thing that ever happened to it. I don't expect Disney to top the original trilogy, but at least the story will stop being wasted.
“There, peeping among the cloud-wrack above a dark tor high up in the mountains, Sam saw a white star twinkle for a while. The beauty of it smote his heart, as he looked up out of the forsaken land, and hope returned to him. For like a shaft, clear and cold, the thought pierced him that in the end the Shadow was only a small and passing thing: there was light and high beauty for ever beyond its reach.”

I don't have a particular attachment to either Star Wars or Disney, but it cracks me up that my "I'm not a nerd" son heard about it before I did.
If there was anything that depressed him more than his own cynicism, it was that quite often it still wasn't as cynical as real life.

Actually, Andy Serkis is going to do it. That's why he has been the second unit director for PJ, in preparation for this gig.
