Samwarg's Drawings

Post by samwarg »

[I've moved this post from the Welcome thread into its own thread here in the Shibboleth forum, and added the link to the album - VtF]

I've got a few of my drawings posted in the gallery if anyone is interested in taking a peak. I have many more and will be adding them later.

Amazing stuff, sam. Really incredible.

Very, very impressive! Éomer and Boromir are my favorites. :)
If there was anything that depressed him more than his own cynicism, it was that quite often it still wasn't as cynical as real life.

I came and saw them but didn't have time to post. They are wonderful drawings. Boromir and Galadriel especially, but all of them. Thank you for sharing them!
“There, peeping among the cloud-wrack above a dark tor high up in the mountains, Sam saw a white star twinkle for a while. The beauty of it smote his heart, as he looked up out of the forsaken land, and hope returned to him. For like a shaft, clear and cold, the thought pierced him that in the end the Shadow was only a small and passing thing: there was light and high beauty for ever beyond its reach.”

Wow, they are awesome, Sam  - thanks for sharing! :D
but being a cheerful hobbit he had not needed hope, as long as despair could be postponed.

Glad you like them

Thanks and double thanks, superwizard, Primula and hobby. I used to draw a lot, but switched to oils in the late seventies. I continued to paint all through the 80's and into the early 90's, but then quit doing almost any artwork at all due to changing life-situations. Then I saw those terrific drawings of all the characters at the end of RotK and I was inspired to pick up my pencils and paper. I want to start painting again but just haven't been able to make myself do it. Maybe one day.

I'll try to, Rowanberry. My problem is that I'm severely PC challenged. I'm pretty good at the old world skills like cooking, art, music, repairing old motorcycles and such, but I really suck at this new-fangled stuff.

hair?

Post by samwarg »

You really flatter me Narya. Hair is the hardest part for me to do, and I really had fits with all the long, tangled hair that most of the male LotR characters have. I did five different drawings of Samwise before I managed to do one that I didn't hate, and it was because of his hair every time. Dark hair is much easier to draw than light-colored hair, and combed hair of any color is easier to draw than messy hair. Drawing the faces is the easy part for me and just comes natural, but drawing hair is hard work!

Éowyn

Post by samwarg »

Thanks, Mahima. Of course this is from the scene in TTT where she learns that Aragorn "fell". I thought Miranda Otto did a fantastic job with her facial expressions throughout the movies.

Her name is Miranda Otto? Man, she was just Éowyn to me. And as for the Aragorn "falling" part and the fight with the wargs scene... :rage:

warg scene and falling

Post by samwarg »

I've read the books twice and watched the movies many, many times, so I know I sometimes get the two mixed up in my head. The warg fight on the way to Helm's Deep and Aragorn falling off the cliff didn't happen in the book, right?

I want to comply with your request, yovargas, but I'll have to have Voronwë's help again, I'm afraid. I'm really sorry that I'm not more savy of modern technology and capable of uploading the drawings on my own. I will pm Voronwë and see if he will offer his most valuable help again.
