I'm truly glad that through the wonder of modern technology I can share this with you all.

Do read the captions, though there is a small amount of less-than-prim language.

“There, peeping among the cloud-wrack above a dark tor high up in the mountains, Sam saw a white star twinkle for a while. The beauty of it smote his heart, as he looked up out of the forsaken land, and hope returned to him. For like a shaft, clear and cold, the thought pierced him that in the end the Shadow was only a small and passing thing: there was light and high beauty for ever beyond its reach.”

To put it mildly.

And another great cultural achievement:

This is pretty amazing, too (thanks to my friend Whistler for bringing it to my attention):

"Spirits in the shape of hawks and eagles flew ever to and from his halls; and their eyes could see to the depths of the seas, and pierce the hidden caverns beneath the world."
Wow! I wish my real house looked like that.

His philosophy was a mixture of three famous schools -- the Cynics, the Stoics and the Epicureans -- and summed up all three of them in his famous phrase, 'You can't trust any bugger further than you can throw him, and there's nothing you can do about it, so let's have a drink."

All three of those links are AWESOME!! I love that there are such obsessed people in the world. They do and make the greatest things!
I would LOVE to have that Bag End dollhouse. I have actually dabbled a little in minatures making dollhouse items for my daughter. It is extremely fun. When I am older and all of my children are grown (so I have the time
) I think I will build an entire doll house from scratch. What fun would that be?! Being an avid crocheter I had to wonder if the amassacar (sorry if that is the wrong spelling) set on the easy chair was hand crocheted. There are actually people that crochet those along with doilies, afghans and tablecloths for dollhouses. The thread and needle used is so impossibly tiny though, but if I ever make my own dollhouse I'll have to try my hand at it!

These guys are at it again! This year they decided on a more ambitious battle...

Mmmm....licorice Grond...
Oh, and these people are clearly fans of the books, not just the movies.
And I can't point fingers. This break, my brothers decided to play a 3500 point LotR Gamesworkshop game (like Warhammer) that was...quite massive in scale
. The good guys won, but only because the bad guys had awful strategy. The Nazgûl were wasted killing Glorfindel and breaking Gandalf's staff, and Treebeard annihilated everything in his path....

Wow! That's incredible. It will certainly be hard to top it next year.
