But when you're famous they let you do it. Words he (and other narcissists) live by. The rules don't apply to him/them.

Also regarding Jack Smith's documents investigation, per the New York Times: "Prosecutors Sought Records on Trump’s Foreign Business Deals Since 2017. The special counsel scrutinizing the former president’s handling of classified documents issued a subpoena to the Trump Organization seeking records related to seven countries." Those countries would be, in alphabetical order, China, France, Kuwait, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and the United Arab Emirates.Voronwë the Faithful wrote: ↑Mon May 22, 2023 2:19 pm You could say this was significant, but if you did, you would be making a vast understatement. I was wondering when we would start hearing about what was in Corcoran's notes.
[Hugo Lowell of the Guardian: "NEW: Special Counsel has evidence Trump was warned not to retain any classified docs after he was subpoenaed for their return last year — as they examine whether subsequent failure to fully comply with the subpoena was obstruction."]

Was Allison Gill prescient (not that this was something that difficult to predict)?

I would say that indictments are about as "imminent" as they were in Georgia when Fani Willis used that word.

We have a winner. This the most nutsy-cuckoo thing yet. That he got his lawyers to send it, that they did send it and most of all that he posted it publicly (including publishing his attorney's phone number).

Yeah, the whole point of a Special Counsel is that office is supposed to be independent from the Attorney General, and thus sending and publishing a letter to the Attorney General is strictly a PR move. And of course, as you indicate, Trump's lawyers surely know this and are merely humoring their client.Voronwë the Faithful wrote: ↑Wed May 24, 2023 4:04 am We have a winner. Everything about that letter is contrary to what a lawyer would actually do. I'm embarrassed that Trusty and Rowley allowed their names to be on it. It reads more like a Trump Truth Social post than a professional correspondence.
Now, whether it is a sign that an indictment is imminent (as many seem to think) or just a sign that Trump wants people to think that an indictment is imminent, only time will tell.
And of course, as Fani Willis tells us, "imminent' can mean different things. Or as, Bill Clinton reminded us, even "is" can mean different things.

Just laying the groundwork for the loony claims and accusations he's going to make on the campaign trail, no doubt. Or campaign cell, as the case may be.
That said, I'd love to know what threats or bribes he's prepared to offer if the meeting is granted.

Re: Trump and Biden (and Pence) Classified Document Investigations
Is this Rolling Stone story about how "Team Trump is scrambling to uncover the names of the FBI agents and Dept. of Justice prosecutors who are investigating the former president [in order] to target them for an 'immediate' purge, should Donald Trump win the presidency again" itself part of the effort to thwart investigations into Trump, by putting these agents and officials on notice that if they do their job, they could be fired in 2025?

1. Who benefits from the news about this recording being made public?N.E. Brigand wrote: ↑Wed May 31, 2023 9:37 pm He vanished and passed down the hill, less than a rustle of the wind. (CNN: "Trump captured on tape talking about classified document he kept after leaving the White House.")
2. The recording was made at Trump's Bedminister, New Jersey golf course. Why hasn't the FBI searched that property?
3. Gen. Mark Milley urged Pres. Trump to order a massive invasion of Iran?

Re: Trump and Biden (and Pence) Classified Document Investigations
Because we are a nation of laws and one of those laws is that probable cause that evidence of a crime is likely to be found in a particular location is needed to obtain a search warrant of that location. A recording made at a particular location (if it was in fact made at the location, which we don't really know), does not provide probable cause that there are unlawful classified documents presently at that location. Whatever evidence the DoJ and FBI obtained that allowed them to obtain a search warrant of Mar-a-Lago last August, it was a helluva lot more than that.N.E.
