Thanks for that, V. As you know, this is the third part of the 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which is at the heart of the lawsuit against her:Voronwë the Faithful wrote: ↑Fri Apr 22, 2022 11:29 pm This could go either here or in the 2022 election thread, but I'll put it here both because it directly relates to the response to the 2020 election and I am quite sure that it won't have any real impact on the 2022 election.
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene testifies for more than 3 hours in hearing on whether to disqualify her from seeking reelection
While I am quite sure that Taylor Greene will not be disqualified from running for reelection, just the fact that this is happening is pretty extraordinary.
Greene took her oath of office three days before the January 6th attack on the U.S. Capitol. No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice-President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any State, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any State legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any State, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof. But Congress may by a vote of two-thirds of each House, remove such disability.
I think the three major questions are:
--Who has the authority to enforce this part of the Constitution?
--Were the events of January 6, 2021 an "insurrection" for the purposes of this amendment?
--Did Greene give "aid or comfort" to the participants in those events?
Among the many questions put to Greene was this one: "Did you advocate to President Trump to impose martial law as a way to remain in power?"
Greene's answer was: "I don't recall."
She was asked a follow-up question: "So you're not denying you did it? You just don't remember?"
And Greene said: "I don't remember."
And she gave the same reply to a lot of questions: basically she didn't want to tell the truth and she didn't want to take the Fifth, so she pretended repeatedly not to remember. I think most people would remember if they said that the President should declare martial law.
At least it's all under oath and on video.
