Jewelsong, LOVE your reply! LOL!

And in the same vein:

[channels Helen Reddy] I am woman! :D

I kind of like the lyrics of that song, except I don't feel I'm invincible. Maybe I did when I was younger, but not now. I like the way the song describes how we grow through pain and difficult experiences:

I am woman, hear me roar
In numbers too big to ignore
And I know too much to go back an' pretend
'cause I've heard it all before
And I've been down there on the floor
No one's ever gonna keep me down again

CHORUS
Oh yes I am wise
But it's wisdom born of pain
Yes, I've paid the price
But look how much I gained
If I have to, I can do anything
I am strong (strong)
I am invincible (invincible)
I am woman

You can bend but never break me
'cause it only serves to make me
More determined to achieve my final goal
And I come back even stronger
Not a novice any longer
'cause you've deepened the conviction in my soul

CHORUS

I am woman watch me grow
See me standing toe to toe
As I spread my lovin' arms across the land
But I'm still an embryo
With a long long way to go
Until I make my brother understand

Oh yes I am wise
But it's wisdom born of pain
Yes, I've paid the price
But look how much I gained
If I have to I can face anything
I am strong (strong)
I am invincible (invincible)
I am woman
Oh, I am woman
I am invincible
I am strong

FADE
I am woman
I am invincible
I am strong
I am woman
When the night has been too lonely, and the road has been too long,
And you think that love is only for the lucky and the strong,
Just remember in the winter far beneath the bitter snows,
Lies the seed, that with the sun's love, in the spring becomes The Rose.

I woke up in a Soho doorway
A policeman knew my name
He said "You can go sleep at home tonight
If you can get up and walk away"

I staggered back to the underground
And the breeze blew back my hair
I remember throwin' punches around
And preachin' from my chair

I won't just survive
Oh, you will see me thrive
Can't write my story
I'm beyond the archetype
I won't just conform
No matter how you shake my core
'Cause my roots, they run deep, oh

When, when the fire's at my feet again
And the vultures all start circling
They're whispering, "You're out of time,"
But still I rise
This is no mistake, no accident
When you think the final nail is in, think again
Don't be surprised, I will still rise

You've never been to the karaoke parties my friends and I have here. That's actually one of my songs. You should see me pull it off. :D

PS What part of my messageboard participation over the years has left you thinking that I couldn't yell long strings of words angrily into a mike with sufficient umph? =:)

Pics or it didn't happen.

Not sure who I am. I seem to change on a daily basis.

Well, we'll just have to correct that, won't we. :D

Saw this C.S. Lewis quote on Facebook yesterday:

"You do not have a soul.
You are a soul.
You have a body."

I like that, tinwë
"Spirits in the shape of hawks and eagles flew ever to and from his halls; and their eyes could see to the depths of the seas, and pierce the hidden caverns beneath the world."

I love that quote!
"What do you fear, lady?" Aragorn asked.
"A cage," Éowyn said. "To stay behind bars, until use and old age accept them, and all chance of doing great deeds is gone beyond recall or desire.”

But if there's no such thing as a soul, what was it I felt leaking out of my ears during that incredibly boring seminar I just escaped? ;)

OK guys, I asked a serious question and would really appreciate a thoughtful discussion. :salmon: . Am I in the wrong forum?

My answer is above: I think, therefore I am.

I can't do better than that.

I'm me. I'm not you.

I love that quote, too, tinwë. In fact, anthy and I had a cool internet twin moment over it not that long ago. :)

When you strip away all the constructions, interpretations, assumptions and other impositions society, acquaintances, friends and family overlay...you're left with the ones I overlay on myself, courtesy of a lifetime of my interactions with the above.

Inside that there's some gooey bits inside a fleshy bag supported by bones, at the top of which sits a gelatinous mass containing the above notion (and a few others).

But even that is still "what." Ultimately all definitions of human identity are "What" definitions, or circular, or solipsisms. "Who" merely differentiates labels. It's a pronoun marker for a human, as opposed to anything else, a notation of restricted class.

That's what you get for asking a nominalist. :P
