No, I said there was nothing like those teeth.

In an odd twist, that orc is played by Rob Kazinsky.

The fellow who originally was hired to play Fili (in case you are asking seriously).

So I guess this fits in here :D :

Vin Diesel, acclaimed star of The Fast and the Furious franchise, The Chronicles of Riddick trilogy, and Guardians of the Galaxy, wants to play Melkor himself in a possible Silmarillion adaptation. Elijah Wood told Stephen Colbert as much. Mr. Diesel, who is an avid D&D player, adopted the name of the Dark Lord as his role-playing alias. Apparently he knows a thing or two about Tolkien’s legendarium. His upcoming film The Last Witch Hunter was actually inspired by Tolkien’s writings on death and mortality.

Here is my take on all of this:
1. I believe Diesel is sincere about his Tolkien appreciation (so it is not just a publicity stunt).
2. Alas, I am probably not going to see The Last Witch Hunter in cinema, although if it pops up on TV in a couple of years from now I will definitely take a closer look.
3. While I have my doubts about Vin Diesel as Melkor, I would say that the man commands a voice that is fitting for a Dark Lord.

What is your take on this very grave matter?

This is Serious Business! I like Diesel, and in general I think many of the successful action stars are fine character actors, especially for physical comedy. I don't quite see him as Melkor, mostly because I'd like Melkor to be played as a Byronian Lucifer figure. I want someone more of a tall, dark, and silent variety. Maybe Stallone would be interested.

Now, what does "possible" mean here? Hypothetical? Or "possibility of which is being discussed by serious people"?
If there was anything that depressed him more than his own cynicism, it was that quite often it still wasn't as cynical as real life.

I've never heard Vin Diesel use anything other than his own accent, which would be completely wrong for Melkor. Loved him in Iron Giant though. :) And of course Pitch Black.

I'm sure he could speak with whatever accent was required. He's clearly a bright guy, whatever roles he plays.

However, there's no shortage of terrifying British actors who could handle the role.
“There, peeping among the cloud-wrack above a dark tor high up in the mountains, Sam saw a white star twinkle for a while. The beauty of it smote his heart, as he looked up out of the forsaken land, and hope returned to him. For like a shaft, clear and cold, the thought pierced him that in the end the Shadow was only a small and passing thing: there was light and high beauty for ever beyond its reach.”

I dunno. There's lots of bright guys who can't do accents. Look at Tom Cruise! :)

Don't mind if I do. ;) I used to like him before all the crazy came out. I don't remember him having accent trouble, but I don't have a good ear for that. He managed passable Russian in Mission Impossible, so I would imagine English accents would be easy.

Well, he does a better job than a certain American actor who played Robin Hood in Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves.... :D

Ya think? At least Costner just did an American accent, he didn't mangle an English one!

I give Cruise half marks for at least trying!

I watch a lot of old movies on TCM, movies from back in the days when English speaking white men got all the roles, regardless of the supposed ethnicity of the character they were playing. Believe me, by comparison with some of those accents, Cruise's efforts aren't too bad!

Well, if you want to compare it with Darby O'Gill and the Little People, maybe. Maybe.

I don't know what that is supposed to be. Irish?

I was proud of myself for recognizing that the nurse I was talking to had an Australian accent, because she reminded me of dear Impish, but generally I don't even try to guess.

More on topic, possible Sil?
