The word "West" itself is not in the quote (at least not as the complete word). The quote is the second sentence of the speaker's two-sentence statement. The meaning is not changed, but the words are switched around.
"Spirits in the shape of hawks and eagles flew ever to and from his halls; and their eyes could see to the depths of the seas, and pierce the hidden caverns beneath the world."

No, but it was spoken by an ancestor of Tuor's!

Here is the quote again so that it is on this page:
We believe that our hearts are facing west and that we will find light there.
"Spirits in the shape of hawks and eagles flew ever to and from his halls; and their eyes could see to the depths of the seas, and pierce the hidden caverns beneath the world."

No, and NOT spoken by an ancestor of Hador, but spoken by a Man who lived earlier than Hador.
"Spirits in the shape of hawks and eagles flew ever to and from his halls; and their eyes could see to the depths of the seas, and pierce the hidden caverns beneath the world."

Do we need another hint? When I said it was said by an ancestor of Tuor's, it was through Tuor's mother, not his father.

I’m just guessing until I narrow it down…

You have successfully narrowed it down!

Good old Bëor, always ready with an apt quote:
Westwards our hearts have been turned, and we believe that there we shall find light.

The original has a "said so-and-so" in the middle of it:
Maybe, but not mine.

That’s vague….

Is it talking about a thing or thought?

Hmm, that's hard to answer.

The phrase that got translated as "mine" is what an AI might make of the original phrase, but it's misleading.

Another hint: this conversation brought up a discussion in the News from Bree thread a while back, because the speaker is a bit controversial.

Well, I think that gives it away for me, but I am hoping someone else will respond.
