This was the first banana slug I'd ever seen. It was in the Muir woods. While I didn't run screaming I was horrified to think of them in the quantities I've seen in around here in gardens.

They are pretty rare to see in Muir Woods, or other forests around here. Maybe one or two sightings during a 4 hour hike.

They are particularly abundant at Big Basin. I recall one hike in particular when we saw dozens, including one pair that was mating.
