You know what, I'm just kinda along for the ride at this stage! I'm not apprehensive or excited, just kinda... there.

WILL BE PLAYED BY KEVIN ELDON

Kevin Eldon can be currently seen in the Apple TV+ show Highjack. He is said to have a talent for comedy. He's also been in such films as Hot Fuzz and such shows as Shadow & Bone; Game of Thrones; Doctor Who; and Merlin.

I can't say that this is a surprise. I would be much more surprised if we didn't see the Doors of Durin crafted in Season 2. I just hope that they match Tolkien's description and illustration of them. It would also be great if Celebrimbor's personality was actually developed (like actually giving him one).

Hey, it's a tradition now for the first installment of a major Tolkien adaptation to feature a personality-deficient Elvish character whose name begins with Celeb-. :D

In fairness Celeborn didn't have much personality in the book either.

I never posted it here, but there was also some report some time ago about the actor who apparently is playing Celeborn, who reportedly was highly praised by all. Let me see if I can find that and post it here.

First, from Otaku-sempai,
The latest from Fellowship of Fans involves Celeborn:

01:47:
EXCLUSIVE: Calam Lynch will
play 'CELEBORN' in 'THE LORD
OF THE RINGS: THE RINGS OF
POWER' Season 2
Image

14:14:
Excl: Celeborn will be in
silver, dark blue and gold
costumes in 'The Rings of
Power' Season 2
20:18:
Excl: Calum Lynch during one
of the chemistry tests with
Morfydd Clark (Galadriel) before
filming was said to be in his entire
Celeborn costume and outfit.
There has been much speculation about how Celeborn would be introduced in Rings of Power. Galadriel, in the show, believes that her husband was slain in the War of Wrath as he has been MIA in all of the centuries since then. If ROP runs with this then Celeborn's fëa may have fled to the Halls of Mandos only for him to be reembodied and sent back in much the same way as Glorfindel (according to Tolkien). This is slightly reminiscent of Tolkien's revision of Galadriel and Celeborn's backstory. In The Lord of the Rings we read that Celeborn was a Sinda Elf and that he and Galadriel met and fell in love in Belariand. Tolkien later considered revising this story, instead making Celeborn a Telerin Elf (originally called Teleporno) from Tol Eressëa. In this version, he and Galadriel made the crossing to Middle-earth together.
And then from Deadrabbits,
Thanks for this!

There were some extra details revealed following this leak, in the subsequent AMA on the FoF Discord:

I'm curious to see what ROP makes of Sauron's "original form." I hope he's a redhead; that's been a longtime headcanon of mine thanks to its prevalence in Silmarillion fanart. :P

Some very interesting new rumors, courtesy of Otaku-Sempai at TORN:
The Second Age Show, episode #21

EXCLUSIVE: BIGGEST Reveal Of The Year For The Rings Of Power
EXCLUSIVE: Gavi Singh Chera will play 'SAURON' in
THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE RINGS OF POWER Season 2.

He will play the original form version of the character which is meant to be
"angelic" and "ethereal" per sources.

All we know about Gavi's form of Sauron so far
- In episode 7-8 of S2 he will be in Eregion and share scenes with Celebrimbor
- He will be on the battle sets aka the Sacking of Eregion and will be in black and golden armor
- He will appear in a flashback scene and has filmed a fight scene with Adar
- There is a very important scene between him, Celeborn and Galadriel

Can also confirm (Dr Nosy Report) that "Annatar" is a character
name listed for The Rings Of Power Season 2. Though NO CONFIRMATION
pr evidence yet as to whether: Original Form Gavi = Annatar

As was expected most of the Rings of Power will be forged
in Season 2 in Celebrimbor's Tower and given by Sauron
to different races. Unconfirmed as to which form will be
distributing the rings.

Excl: In flashback scenes "Original Form Sauron" (Gavi
Singh Chera) will have long hair, in present day scenes in
Region he apparently has shorter hair.

And just like that we are back to discussion of hair lengths. Whether this is good casting or not remains to be seen. I'm not terribly familiar with the work of Gavi Singh Chera. Maybe someone here can enlighten me.

I've never heard of him, though that means little since I'm even less informed about current movies and TV than I was pre-COVID. :P On the other hand, he does not (yet) have a Wikipedia page, and his listed credits on IMDb are fairly sparse, but of course being a relative unknown does not preclude potentially giving a good performance. And it's arguably desirable for an actor portraying a character like Sauron to not be immediately recognizable for their other roles.

I'm not sure how I feel about ROP (allegedly) bringing in the Annatar guise after the altered sequence of events depicted in S1. Presumably either Celebrimbor will come across as a humongous idiot or Galadriel will continue to keep Sauron's involvement in the Three Rings secret, which is not a good reflection on her. But "not a good reflection" seems to be what they're aiming for with Galadriel, sooo... :help:

That said, I'm glad ROP will delve into Sauron's backstory, and I'm curious to see what they come up with.

I had totally forgotten about the existence of this show. What did you all think of the previous season(s)? Should I abandon all my principles and get an Amazon Prime membership so that I can watch it? Asking for a friend...

I'd say there are better uses for your money if you don't already have Prime, but for what it's worth I was one of the more ROP-critical people here as it was airing, so you might well feel differently. :)

There are also 2 seasons of Good Omens on Prime. ;)

I loved the RoP. And love Good Omens as well.

But then I’m an Amazon-addict. Even my bounty comes from Amazon. And my kindle and I are inseparable.

Actually, I just read that Amazon is going to start forcing viewers to watch ads, without lowering the subscription price. So I will absolutely not be getting a subscription.

Amazon is a garbage company.

I got a notification email about that a couple days ago, yeah. I should really get around to watching Wheel of Time S2 before the change kicks in on January 29th, since I'm curious to see how that show holds up when I don't have rock-bottom expectations of it (though not curious enough to pay an extra $3/month to remove ads). :P But I've not been in a mood to consistently watch things for a while.

Yeah, I don't whether I will be getting another temporary subscription like I did for Season one. But at the end of the day, I probably will because I really do want to see what they do.

Not yet, and they might not ever since Amazon's business objective for ROP is reportedly to build their credibility as a streaming service, but it's possible there will be a DVD release in the future. If it follows the model of Amazon's The Boys, the DVD/Blu-ray release of S1 might come out shortly before the streaming release of S2.
