Ahem?
"Spirits in the shape of hawks and eagles flew ever to and from his halls; and their eyes could see to the depths of the seas, and pierce the hidden caverns beneath the world."

I have no doubt that your job is yours, but it's my job to ask questions after dawn
His philosophy was a mixture of three famous schools -- the Cynics, the Stoics and the Epicureans -- and summed up all three of them in his famous phrase, 'You can't trust any bugger further than you can throw him, and there's nothing you can do about it, so let's have a drink."

W00t!
Note to translationparty: nightfall is actually dusk.Your business is your own, now doubt; but it's my business to ask questions after nightfall.
Re: The Tolkien Translation Game!
Assuming that was correct, here's the new quote:
Let's sit here and talk for a minute.
Re: The Tolkien Translation Game!
From TH?
'You just said "your getting shorter": you've obviously been drinking too much ent-draught and not enough Prim's.' - Jude
Re: The Tolkien Translation Game!
Did you ask that because you've identified the quote, or it sounded like The Hobbit?
Re: The Tolkien Translation Game!
Because it sounded like the hobbit…. I blanked after you said “yes!”.

Re: The Tolkien Translation Game!
Is it Bilbo thinking to himself after Fili and Kili arrive in Bag End and talk about joining the 'throng':
"I really must sit down for a minute and collect my wits, and have a drink."

"Spirits in the shape of hawks and eagles flew ever to and from his halls; and their eyes could see to the depths of the seas, and pierce the hidden caverns beneath the world."
Re: The Tolkien Translation Game!
Is the quote shortened? Do any key words remain?
'You just said "your getting shorter": you've obviously been drinking too much ent-draught and not enough Prim's.' - Jude
Re: The Tolkien Translation Game!
The translation has basically the same meaning and is not noticeably shorter or longer. The word "here" is also in the original, and other words are present but in different forms.

Is it Gollum saying "Praps ye sits here and chats with it a bitsy, my preciousss."
"Spirits in the shape of hawks and eagles flew ever to and from his halls; and their eyes could see to the depths of the seas, and pierce the hidden caverns beneath the world."

Re: The Tolkien Translation Game!
Just a weird typo.
So the translation just left the "my precious" part out?
