Yeah, I've noticed that. I believe I read in their rules that they use some sort of vocabulary scale and (I presume) if a word falls below a set threshold for use it gets put in the 'bonus' category. I would imagine that lets people know they need not be looking for obscure/less used words to win the game.

If there was anything that depressed him more than his own cynicism, it was that quite often it still wasn't as cynical as real life.

There should be a warning that today's word only works with U.S. spelling.

I think that's why (in reverse) I had issues with the Canadian waffle. Don't the Canadian/British spellings usually require an additional letter (often u after an o?) making the word 6 letters, which is, I suppose why you don't consider such words? Working from a wordle word list would be helpful.

They (NYT) have added words to the vocabulary from the original but I'm pretty sure they have kept the no 4 letter words made 5 by adding an 's' rule.

It's no wonder I had such a hard time getting the bonus word for Squardle (other than by endlessly messing around). I've never heard of the word, but it was a personally sponsored bonus word with a special birthday message for someone who must play all of the time.
