Re: Games, Riddles, Puzzles, and other Distractions
They look broken to me, on Chrome, on my Android phone. A few days ago, only some were broken. Now they are broken all the way back to the beginning of the thread.

I didn't expect my third guess to be the answer - I just put it in to eliminate some letters.

Way to go Jude! I spent a lot of time on my 2nd guess to eliminate words/letters, but my 3rd guess was a stab at the remaining possibilities so I was pleasantly surprised.

I checked to see if the broken squares was browser-dependent and it is not. On my work computer they appear broken in both Edge and Chrome. On my home laptop, they appear correctly in both browsers. So very strange!

Just out of curiosity, can one of you who doesn't see broken images delete your browser cache and post the results?
Edit: Actually, don't do this. See below!

Jude, I don't see/have never had broken images, but if I delete my browser cache for games, = that means I'll be starting over/wipe out my score.. right?
For what it's worth, I run Firefox on my desktop & my phone and it's fine. I checked Chrome on my phone and the images are broken.

Ah, you're right - you'll wipe out your score. Ignore my previous advice!
Maybe delete the cache of a browser that you don't use for the games so you don't affect your score?
My hypothesis is that the images got deleted or lost on the server, and those that can still see them are just seeing the cached images. That's just my guess!

Re: Games, Riddles, Puzzles, and other Distractions
Okay, after further research:
Only the green image is down. That's why you see the broken image next to it, but not the black square or the star. The alt text is actually a green square character (alt="") so if your browser is configured to display the alt text in addition to the image, you'll see the broken icon. If it's configured to display the alt text instead of the image, it will display just fine.
The emojis are served from Maxcdn (a content delivery network). At some point recently, either they lost the green image, or changed the code for it. So Wafflegame and Wordle need to update their code to account for this. I'm surprised that they haven't already done so.

Why does it work in Firefox if it's on the game end?
Are you a full stack developer, Jude?

Re: Games, Riddles, Puzzles, and other Distractions
Yup.
My guess is that Firefox displays the alt text instead of the image, whereas Chrome displays it beside the broken image. My guess about caching the images was wrong.

And.... now they all look fine in Firefox, but the yellow and green squares are still broken in Chrome and (ick ptooy) Edge.
