Re: The Tolkien Translation Game!
I think I was just confusing in my statement. In the original quote, he uses the word "token" more like "in lieu of that" or "as a symbol of that" but not as the actual item, the stone called the Elessar that had been created by Enerdhil (or Celebrimbor). But in the translation it seems to refer directly to the item itself. That's all I meant.
"Spirits in the shape of hawks and eagles flew ever to and from his halls; and their eyes could see to the depths of the seas, and pierce the hidden caverns beneath the world."

You got it, Eldy.
V, I’m now more confused. Will re-read your response when am less sleepy.

Re: The Tolkien Translation Game!
Your probably just better off forgetting about it, because what I said just didn't make very much sense!
(Of course, sense is what you make of it.)

Thanks, Inanna!

Not enough to go on? Translation Party rendered this a good bit shorter than the original quote.

More specifically, from "Elvish."
Re: The Tolkien Translation Game!
He probably did.
If there was anything that depressed him more than his own cynicism, it was that quite often it still wasn't as cynical as real life.

Is it Treebeard, talking about the song he sings about the Ents and Entwives?
‘It is Elvish, of course: lighthearted, quickworded, and soon over.'

It is indeed! (I also pasted in the preceding sentence, "That is how it goes," but TranslationParty ended up losing that altogether.)

This one shouldn't be too hard.

The dumbest thing I've ever bought
was a 2020 planner.
"Does anyone ever think about Denethor, the guy driven to madness by staying up late into the night alone in the dark staring at a flickering device he believed revealed unvarnished truth about the outside word, but which in fact showed mostly manipulated media created by a hostile power committed to portraying nothing but bad news framed in the worst possible way in order to sap hope, courage, and the will to go on? Seems like he's someone we should think about." - Dave_LF

This must be Mîm to Túrin:
Now my heart is cooled, though it is not glad; and in this house you may dwell, if you will; for I will pay my ransom.
