Re: The Tolkien Translation Game!
Yes to Pippin, but no to Strider, who was not present.
"Spirits in the shape of hawks and eagles flew ever to and from his halls; and their eyes could see to the depths of the seas, and pierce the hidden caverns beneath the world."
Re: The Tolkien Translation Game!
I can actually "hear" it in my head from the BBC Radio production. Was if Pippin saying to Frodo in Crickhollow something like "You can trust us to follow you through thick and thin, and every bush and briar, but you can't trust us to let you go off alone".
ETA: No wait... its about missing the Golden Perch!
‘All right!’ said Pippin. ‘I will follow you into every bog and ditch. But it is hard! I had counted on passing the Golden Perch at Stock before sundown.

That's it! Well done! Your turn.
"Spirits in the shape of hawks and eagles flew ever to and from his halls; and their eyes could see to the depths of the seas, and pierce the hidden caverns beneath the world."
Re: The Tolkien Translation Game!
I was leaping over the hill feeling the wind and the weather from the grey dawn. A wet sky on a wet grass underfoot.

Tom to the Hobbits, wishing them a good morning (and apparently chastising them for being lazy bums):
"I have been walking wide, leaping on the hill-tops, since the grey dawn began, nosing wind and weather, wet grass underfoot, wet sky above me."

Inanna, I think you can go ahead and post a new quote. I'm sure that yours was the correct one.
"Spirits in the shape of hawks and eagles flew ever to and from his halls; and their eyes could see to the depths of the seas, and pierce the hidden caverns beneath the world."

Here we go:
I will support you from a distance under the cloak until this darkness is still dark.

Is that Voronwë to Tuor?
The dumbest thing I've ever bought
was a 2020 planner.
"Does anyone ever think about Denethor, the guy driven to madness by staying up late into the night alone in the dark staring at a flickering device he believed revealed unvarnished truth about the outside word, but which in fact showed mostly manipulated media created by a hostile power committed to portraying nothing but bad news framed in the worst possible way in order to sap hope, courage, and the will to go on? Seems like he's someone we should think about." - Dave_LF

Is it spoken in or near Mordor?
"Spirits in the shape of hawks and eagles flew ever to and from his halls; and their eyes could see to the depths of the seas, and pierce the hidden caverns beneath the world."

No…

Re: The Tolkien Translation Game!
Is the word "support" in the original?
Also is "until" a translation of "while"?
Also is "until" a translation of "while"?
Re: The Tolkien Translation Game!
No, “support” is not there.
And “until” is “until”.
And “until” is “until”.

Re: The Tolkien Translation Game!
Is the word "cloak" in there, and if so, does it refer to a piece of clothing, or something else.
