I should probably wait until I'm more awake before doing this. I threw the third word away entirely.

I agree, Inanna. If you eliminate U, you likely have also eliminated Q. I tried CURIO & MAYBE to get all of the vowels in the first two lines. Each time, I got a hit on E. Outcome words, depending upon my third guess, included JEWEL, SLEEP and SWEPT. Of course, if you enter CURIO, MAYBE, and then JEWEL, you will not win - the program will pick a different target word.

I agree with your spoiler comment, Elengil!

Inanna, I think it was me who said one of my strategies was to use as many different vowels/consonants in the first 2-3 words.

Like Frelga, I did it before going to bed and was sleepy. I completely threw away the 4th line without thinking and was embarrassed when I saw the answer.

I hear that one strategy is learn the starting words your friends are using, then try to work from their posted results.

I vary my words, because I get bored easily.

Elengil, I needed an extra turn because I thought "surely not that."

I vary my words too, but I try to narrow down the most unlikely that will throw me off, so I try words like zloty and try not to use words that repeat any of those letters.

What if I reply, will the spoiler tag in the earlier post work?

Answer, no it doesn't.

But if you quote the post in question you can read the spoiler text in the reply box.

I would have never guessed that without all these LOTR hints.

'HIRES'
especially as I already knew the one of the letters was in the wrong spot for that. I'm sticking to the 'I was tired/I did it just before I went to bed' excuse.

No idea why you would feel stupid for that, it is a perfectly reasonable guess given the letters! I lucked out in having the third and last letter set and the fourth misplaced, so...

Both are working for me after cut and paste. Makes me wonder if there's something going on here like the difference between Unix/Linux carriage line break and Windows line break

In other words, if someone's posting from an android phone maybe?

My rows 2,3 AND 4 are:

G G G B B

B- black instead of saying grey which would also be “G”.

I mean WTF.
