Yup!
"Spirits in the shape of hawks and eagles flew ever to and from his halls; and their eyes could see to the depths of the seas, and pierce the hidden caverns beneath the world."

Erendis brings Aldarion the Bough of Return, Aldarion asks “From the Queen?”Erendis answers:
“Yes, lord, but I asked for her leave to do so. Others beside your own kin will rejoice at your return, as soon as may be”

You will be late, my lord. I stopped expecting you for a long time. I don't think it's as welcome as when the deadline is reached.

“You come late, my lord. I had long ceased to expect you. I fear that there is no such welcome prepared for you as I had made when you were due.”

That's the one. Well done! Your turn.

Re: The Tolkien Translation Game!
Probably quite easy but the translation was too cute to pass up:
If I were 50 times bigger and the Smaug was tamed like a rabbit, I would like to spend hundreds of years raising everything.

Sounds like something Sam would say.

No, but it still sounds like something a gardener would say. Just sayin'.

Re: The Tolkien Translation Game!
Agreed; it does sound like Sam. Obviously, isn't.

Well, Sam did spend time around Bilbo as a kid.
If there was anything that depressed him more than his own cynicism, it was that quite often it still wasn't as cynical as real life.

So.. about the quote? Quite straightforward, people.

Re: The Tolkien Translation Game!
Was it spoken by Bilbo?

Re: The Tolkien Translation Game!
Had he met Smaug by this time?
Re: The Tolkien Translation Game!
Define “met”.

Re: The Tolkien Translation Game!
Having seen him and talked to him, even though Smaug didn't see him.
Re: The Tolkien Translation Game!
Then no. He has not talked to him yet, no.
