My son is deciding between French Horn and trombone for band next year. Mrs. Ax played bone in the Marching Mizzou, so her bias is pretty clear, but even I have to admit I'd prefer lower-pitched squeals during practice. Plus she still has two.
At least he's not interested in the other instrument she played, clarinet (squuueeeAAAAAKKKKK).
Anyway, I showed him this and the rest of the guy's YouTube page and it might push him over the edge.

For those who complained that "The Hobbit" was too much like a videogame!

Anyone who liked, loved, disliked or hated Gravity. In short, anyone who saw Gravity will really love this. At least a smile, guaranteed.

More in the ever so slightly addictive series of trombone videos from Christopher Bell. This time it's his bone quartet arrangement of "Let it Go" from Frozen.

Mrs. Ax officially calls his playing "sweet," which I'm pretty sure is a complement between brass players.

I posted this in the Parlour, but it's worth adding here too, because the priest is having just too much fun!

Mornings wouldn't suck so badly if they came later in the day.
I was listening to this song on the radio the other day and it occurred to me that maybe some of my American friends might not be familiar with it. It was made famous here by the great Luke Kelly, but was written by Phil Coulter about the experience of living with his son, who had Downs Syndrome, and of his loss at four years of age.
While Luke Kelly's version is technically perfect, Phil's own rendition is so incredibly personal and moving that I wanted to share it.

That was fantastic. No need to rewatch the films after that!Alatar wrote:For those who complained that "The Hobbit" was too much like a videogame!

Alatar posted the LOTR medley this bassist did on FB, so to avoid redundancy, I'll post his "Let it Go" arrangement.

After seeing it here in the Tolkien Movies forum, where I had posted it.axordil wrote:Alatar posted the LOTR medley this bassist did on FB
"Spirits in the shape of hawks and eagles flew ever to and from his halls; and their eyes could see to the depths of the seas, and pierce the hidden caverns beneath the world."

Gack!
“There, peeping among the cloud-wrack above a dark tor high up in the mountains, Sam saw a white star twinkle for a while. The beauty of it smote his heart, as he looked up out of the forsaken land, and hope returned to him. For like a shaft, clear and cold, the thought pierced him that in the end the Shadow was only a small and passing thing: there was light and high beauty for ever beyond its reach.”

And now you can travel back in time: the great Irish tenor John McCormack singing "Nearer to thee"... in 1913.
