Mathematical fiber arts
Hyperbolic crochet, that's what I was trying to think of on the zoom call.

was a 2020 planner.
"Does anyone ever think about Denethor, the guy driven to madness by staying up late into the night alone in the dark staring at a flickering device he believed revealed unvarnished truth about the outside word, but which in fact showed mostly manipulated media created by a hostile power committed to portraying nothing but bad news framed in the worst possible way in order to sap hope, courage, and the will to go on? Seems like he's someone we should think about." - Dave_LF

I'm a leather worker. It's a very old craft. How old? Found this on FB yesterday:

When the night has been too lonely, and the road has been too long,
And you think that love is only for the lucky and the strong,
Just remember in the winter far beneath the bitter snows,
Lies the seed, that with the sun's love, in the spring becomes The Rose.
And you think that love is only for the lucky and the strong,

Somewhere around the time we came up with something called "civilization" which involved the invention of money, and therefore inequality, poverty, and depression...Frelga wrote:Where did we go wrong?elengil wrote:Yep!! Our ancestors weren't stupid

Re: fiber arts and handicrafts
We got an ebony burnisher attachment for our dremel tool. We hadn't heard of a bone burnisher before. May have to try that.
Re: fiber arts and handicrafts
Sunny, do you use bone?

Re: fiber arts and handicrafts
No, my burnisher is plastic, a cheap one from Tandy. It's hard to find bone burnishers. I suppose if I really wanted one, I could ask someone who hunts deer.

I've often thought leatherworking would be a nice hobby, but I've got too many hobbies (I almost typed 'Hobbits' ) as it is.. along with all of the paraphernalia which I struggle to keep in order!
My heart is forever in the Shire.

What I need is a service that would let me pick a project by level of difficulty, particular skill I want to practice, and yarn type, and then sell me the pattern, wool, and optionally, needles. I'd pay a premium - I'm so slow that the cost would amortize over many months. I just want someone to make that call for me.
On my last two projects, I walked into a local yarn shop, and they did exactly that for me.
Maybe I can email them.

Re: fiber arts and handicrafts
They probably won't hold it this year, but in the past, the Oakland Museum has had a ginormous white elephant sale as a fund raiser, and one whole area is devoted to half-finished projects. I have avoided it - I have enough of my own.

Maria, mine looks like that only it's plastic, and straight, not curved. There's a detachable part on the top that can be used for burnishing edges: https://tandyleather.com/collections/to ... one-folder
Narya, tell me about it!!I have avoided it - I have enough of my own.
