Yes, I meant my general feeling about any US-led production on the subject of the Eastern Front of WWII. (I think Lidless is a Brit, but Wiki mentioned that the executive producer was the one from Olympus Has Fallen.)

I will spare you a long rant on the subject. :blackeye:

Dave, oddly, dialog is one thing I'm not complaining about, except as it adds to the heft of the work.

Listening to the first of Arsene Lupin story collections. They are fun, although I am too genre savvy by now to be surprised by plot twists. Looking forward to the second book, Arsene Lupin vs. Herlock Sholmes. (Oh yes he did!)

Oh, that's good to know. I was thinking of watching it.

Its not an really an adaptation of the books, neither is it a modernisation a la Sherlock. The main character is a fan of the books and uses them as inspiration. That said, I suspect they borrow heavily from the books, so its closer to Sherlock in that way. But I haven't read the books so I may be way off.

I'm still not over it. This is literally how this went down.

Maurice Leblanc: Gentleman thief Arséne Lupin faces his great nemesis, brilliant English detective Sherlock Holmes.

Arthur Conan Doyle: You can't do that, it's my character!

Maurice Leblanc: ...

Maurice Leblanc: Gentleman thief Arséne Lupin faces his great nemesis, brilliant English detective Herlock Sholmes.

Fun story, too.

Eta: the cheek of him! "Oh, Sholmes was so amazing, he may have been a creation of a genius such as Conan Doyle."

I'm reading The Dictionary of Lost Words and enjoying it very much. Set at the turn of the 19th,/20th century in Oxford, when the Oxford Dictionary was first being compiled, this is a parallel story focusing on women's voices which are typically not heard in history.
Beautifully written with a compelling young protagonist.

Not through Libby.

Eta: but it IS available at my county library, both in e-book and audiobook. No waiting.

I just read "I am C3P0: The Inside Story" by Anthony Daniels. Very enjoyable, although its very much about playing C3P0 and nothing else. You gain no insight into his other roles (I was interested in his Legolas with Bakshi) or his private life.

On a whim, just read In Cold Blood by Truman Capote. It's excellent, one of those famous books which is really deserving of its reputation.

Do we have a Murderbot thread? Do we need a Murderbot thread?

Anyway, someone animated a Murderbot music video.

Speaking of Murderbot - have you all read the short story prequel?

https://www.wired.com/story/future-of-w ... tha-wells/

Among other things, Murderbot is about the power of a story. Murderbot is influenced by the media he loves in so many subtle ways.
