Re: Colourblind Casting
Yes they could have used the pre-existing lore, but I'd still say that it's not as positive a scope as it should be. Showing the corruption of Harad still plays into the fact that these cultures eventually would go on to be swayed under Sauron's sovereign and that the white Western kingdoms basicall...

Re: Colourblind Casting
Shakespeare predates Tolkien by nearly 400 years and nearly all of his works were written with a predominantly white European cast in mind. Skip to today, multiracial stage productions of Shakespeare are much the norm and no one bats an eye. Some are even very acclaimed. Same with other "white&...

Re: The last movie you saw Thread
Yikes, and I thought Trial of the Chicago 7 was easily one of my least favourite Oscar nominees and a very forgettable film In general. (complete with a very cheesy ending). And that's coming from someone who loves 'The Social Network'. Steve McQueen's 'Mangrove',, also released last year, tackles v...

Re: The 4K Release of Lord of the RIngs and The Hobbit
I saw the stills comparing the 4K version with the standard versions and I thought that the 4K ones didn't look very good. Am I the only one? They seem to have been colour corrected, which ended up making them look more "modern" I suppose but took away the dreamlike quality of some of thes...

Had no idea it was releasing this early! I'm cautiously optimistic. Any sign of when we'll be getting a trailer?

Depends on what exactly you hate about animes. I usually don't watch the more popular animes - they're very much stretched out, and have too much shouting and silly fights. Avatar and Fullmetal Alchemist are nothing like that imo.

The Airbender anime is really one of the best there is, when it comes to world building.
I really recommend Fullmetal Alchemist, Túrin. It's another series with excellent fantasy worldbuilding and an engaging plot. It's also available on Netflix.

Re: The last movie you saw Thread
Barring the great performance and technical categories aside, I thought Joker was fairly average. Engaging and atmospheric, but that's it. On a separate note, I really recommend Bong Joon-Ho's Korean film "Parasite", which I believe is currently in the theatres. It's one of the best and mo...

Re: The last movie you saw Thread
Recently watched Peter Jackson's latest "They Shall Never Grow Old". And what a colossal achievement it is. Yeah sure it's all a great technical achievement and everything, but it's biggest credit is how it manages to connect so deeply with blurred and grainy video-footage and voices of pe...

Re: The last movie you saw Thread
Toy Story 2 is my favourite. I'd put Toy Story 4 at the same level as Toy Story 3. My only gripe is that 3 has the perfect ending to the trilogy. 4 doesn't really add anything to that, but it doesn't take away anything from it either. On it's own, it's a solid film. Heartwarming, very funny, good st...

Don't know where to put this, but recently finished HBO's Chernobyl. Very well made, detailed, gripping, terrifying, heartbreaking, haunting and to my surprise historically accurate for the most part.

Having grown up on Laurel & Hardy, I recently saw "Stan and Ollie".
A little by-the-numbers, but very touching. And by God, do John C Reilly and Steve Coogan look exactly like them.

Re: Winter is Coming: A Game of Thrones (SPOILERS)
They tried to do to Daenerys in two episodes what Breaking Bad did with Walter White over 5 seasons. One was glorious, the other a head-scratcher despite some unremarkable hints in the past seasons.

I forgot to mention here. Not a big super-hero fan. But I really loved Endgame. :) Not to make this into a whole thing but.......I think GoT has become a giant flaming garbage dumpster fire. I agree with you there. Seasons 7 and 8 have just been incredibly dumb.(Seasons 5 and 6 were mostly meh) That...

It gets it's name from one of Bundy's sentences as pronounced by the court: "The court finds that both of these killings were indeed heinous, atrocious and cruel, and that they were extremely wicked, shockingly evil, vile and the product of a design to inflict a high degree of pain and utter in...

Re: Movies we are looking forward to seeing
Is it just me or is the Dune movie shaping up to be really exciting? It's got a great director and a fantastic cast so far.
Also looking forward to 'The Irishman'. De Niro, Al Pacino, Joe Pesci and Harvey Keitel in one single film that happens to be directed by Scorsese!?
