Bet you thought this would go away if you ignored it! No such luck! Most people agree that PJ's Ride of the Rohirrim was pretty damn good. There's a bit of disagreement about Gandalf vs The Witchking though. Well, fortunately, Rankin Bass have provided us with a nice puristy version to compare with!...

I'll give you a clue. Similar to the recent big movie in the news, this one also had protests about it.

What can I say. I love the books. I love the films. I just don't expect them to be each other.

It's funny but none of those things bothered me this time round. It's like I was expecting them to, so they didn't. Even Legolas' shield surf was fine. Maybe I'm just enured (sp?) to those bits and they don't bother me any more. I've never had a problem with Faramir's men thumping Gollum. It was a t...

I took it more as a decision to officially recognise the fact as one of the tenets of the faith. As I said, much like the Immaculate Conception was only recognised officially by the Catholic Church in 1854. The doctrine of the Immaculate Conception was officially defined by Pope Pius IX in 1854. Whe...

The Lord of the Rings - A 12 Hour movie

I sat down with a couple of friends and watched the three Extended Editions back to back yesterday. As a single movie, it works on a different level to the way it did in seperate installments. I thought I'd share my thoughts, for what they're worth. Firstly, I have to say thanks to TTBK and his wond...

I have to be honest, I didn't get that from the book. Haven't seen the movie yet, so I can't judge that. In the book it seemed similar to what happened with the Immaculate conception. It was a commonly held belief that the church chose to endorse.

Well, we just got some great news. All the amateur shows in Ireland are judged by two adjudicators throughout the year. Then, in June, we have our own Oscars ceremony. Full "Black Tie" affair with over 1000 attendees. It's a brilliant weekend whether you're there with a nomination or witho...

I have disagree with you again Tom! Like the Hildebrants, I find Pauline Baynes drawings to be far too cutesy for my taste. It's been a long held opinion of mine that, based on Tolkiens own preferences for music and illustration, I would probably have hated a movie of LotR that he approved of. Can y...

Siege of Minas Tirith vs The Siege of Belgrade

A friend posted this to me from a Perl messageboard. Anyone have any thoughts? Siege of Minas Tirith I can't find anything about this anywhere, but I was reading up on the famous Siege of Belgrade (at the time, called Nandorfejervar) in 1456, and the similarities of this bit of history to Tolkien's ...
