So is he to be judged on his moral character, his work performance, or the bottom line? We at HoF can judge him on his moral character. The Firm is only interested in his work performance, of which his contribution to the bottom line is an important measure. In certain RPing circles this behavior i...

Historically, two of the most important factors that should be considered in deciding whether to commute a death sentence are "redemption" and "rehabilitation". Not in a religious sense, but in a secular sense. I think that a very good argument can be made that the person making...

Given choice, which I am not, I would not vote for any candidate who mentioned his or her religion at all in the context of political campaign. I mean why is it relevant unless the candidates are implying that they intend to use their office to advance the religious agenda? I would also make have an...

FWIW, I remember reading that a fantasy story (or probably any kind of story) is more likely to be accepted by a magazine if it comes with artwork because it saves the magazine the bother of finding an illustrator. Black Gate, for instance, has a story/artwork format, although it's black and white. ...

I know that the squirting tomatoes scene was a little dramatic. (And how long WAS that meal, anyway? Those guys got suited up, passed through town, and were out on the fields charging the orcs, and Denethor is STILL eating). But it is a chilling scene, nonetheless. I love how the actual violence is...

Since when do we ARREST people based on creative writing essays? Arrested and charged with what? Mind boggles. Of course, a bright guy would not write an essay like that just now, but being a disturbed and non-bright teenager should not be a criminal offense in itself. That said, what IS an appropri...

We had a tomato poke up in our backyard out of nowhere. The only thing I can guess is that we had a lunch outside and some seed found a pleasant spot to sprout??? Good tomatoes, they were, too. :)

There used to be a little tree sapling poking out of a gutter in an office building across from a parking lot. They cleaned the gutters last fall so it's not there anymore. Too bad, it was a bright and tenacious thing.

Look at the Soviet Union - Khrushchov was nowhere near as fearsome a dictator as Stalin, and neither was Brezhnev, but they managed to hold a much larger and more complicated country together for thirty years after the dictator's death. True enough. One could make the argument that Stalin was SO ef...

Be ready to never feel safe again, though... because we lost in Vietnam, and if we lose in Iraq, there will be no terrorist that thinks we can't be beaten. That's probably good advice, hal. :( I think this is precisely why Iran is giving us all this lip. Because they know that US military is tied u...
