Yes, the NY Barnes & Noble copies are pre-signed. Lee will be at Waterstone's in London that day. The only announced appearances of Lee that I have seen are in the UK.

I'm going to go out on a limb and predict a Bonds home run this evening. It didn't take long for me to be proven correct. Bottom of the first inning, Bonds hits number 735. I amaze myself sometimes. Edit: Cross-posted with Fara. Or some Giant wins. In a theme that I think will be repeated al...

I don't know, Prim. But at the Children of Húrin FAQ at the Tolkien Library that I have quoted before ( http://www.tolkienlibrary.com/press/Children-of-Hurin-FAQ.htm ) it states: Q: Will Christopher Tolkien be doing any signings? Christopher Tolkien will regrettably be unavailable to attend any sign...

It's not likely that Christopher is going to be doing any promotional appearances. Even in the UK.

India Pale Ale, actually. ;)

Prim, great idea for a thread. Though I don't have anything to contribute.

Oh yes, I meant to answer that question. For those who are wondering, Stu Miller was relief pitcher for the Giants most famous for being blown off the mound by the wind at Candlestick Park during the 1961 all-star game.

Don't get me wrong. I agree that the system is broken.

One thing I wanted to point out that Obama claims (though I don't think that this can be verified) that unlike Clinton, he does not accept contributions from PACs or lobbyists. If that is true, that makes a big difference to me.

But we are talking about individual donors, not corporate donors. Donors are limited by law to making no more then a $2300 contribution to the primary, and then the same to the general election.

Well now. Obama's figures are out, and they rival Clinton's. He raised an astounding $25 million from 100,000 donors. Given the fact that he started with a much lower name recognition then Clinton, his totals are more impressive then hers. Unlike Clinton, he released a breakdown of how much of that ...

I believe that the correct title of the film is actually "Reign Over Me". And the name of the actor that you were looking for is Don Cheadle; he is in fact an excellent actor. Sam, I'm glad to hear that you were impressed with Sandler's acting in this film. I was interested to see how he w...

Yes, I can't help but think that Crosby is a bit rusty from his long lay-off. This was his first regular season game since, what, August? Of course, Haren didn't help his cause by grooving a slider to Richie Sexton for a three-run homer. On the other hand, the way Hernandez was pitching the one run ...

The word is that the Mariners will be starting 20-year old Felix Hernandez, the youngest to start an opening day since Dwight Gooden in 1985. Now this is interesting: Hernandez was born on 4/8/86, 40 years to the day after Jim "Catfish" Hunter (4/8/46). Hernandez made his major league deb...

Indeed. Stevens wrote the opinion, and as usual provided the rhetoric, but Kennedy provided the deciding vote. Roberts wrote the dissent for himself, Alito, Thomas and Scalia, and was careful to limit the scope to the issue of standing, basically saying that the states did not have the right to chal...
