The Pence twitter thread is filled with Reps calling him a coward and traitor. Following the constitution has probably ruined any hopes of a presidential run he may have had.
I don't know how our democracy can survive this.

Re: 2020 Election: Predictions, Results and Reactions
First specific reference to the possibility of sanctions that I have seen (this is in the case that a group of various Trump supporters filed a complaint against a bunch of different people and entities including "the electoral college" and then failed to serve any of them, not that they ...

I saw that a little while ago and thought it was phenomenal. It confirmed that a) octopuses are probably the most interesting animals on earth and b) earth already contains alien life forms.

Re: Trump's America
Maybe we need to seriously discuss the ideas in that Washington Post op-ed that was being ridiculed a few days ago: there's probably a good "originalist" argument to be found that pardons were never meant to be used by Presidents to cover up their own crimes by pardoning accomplices, and ...

I really appreciate that list. Even if one disagrees with some of those, it's still a list of things that one can see reasonable people supporting.

Weird, resignation letters don't usually read like campaign speeches for your boss.

Re: 2020 Election: Predictions, Results and Reactions
Can't do it though, because there are only purple states. Yeah, the problem is that there aren't really red and blue states, it's that cities are consistently blue and rural areas are consistently red. I don't know how you split things in that case, even if one were serious about wanting it to happ...

It's become bafflingly difficult to keep track of all this stuff. I have completely lost track of who is suing where for what at this point. Is it even possible to get a simple summary of where things stand?

I've thought for a long time, before Trump made everything seem so hyper-partisan, that it would be a good idea. Democracy, I think, works better small.Frelga wrote: This time, can we maybe let them go? Since freedom vs. slavery isn't on the line?

And yet we are only discussing whether the women and/or minorities are really suited for their jobs, aren't we? Considering the number of white men that Trump appointed who were widely and resoundingly criticized for being unqualified and incompetent, I don't think this is a fair assessment at all.

Re: The 4K Release of Lord of the RIngs and The Hobbit
The unexpected release of LOTR this year has certainly made me very very tempted to make the jump, but I'm still sticking to my plan of waiting for next year. IMO the really good TVs are more expensive than they are worth to me so I'm waiting for those prices to come down a good bit.

Re: yov's 100 All-time Favorite Songs
I started at #100 on your list and have listened through #46, but I'm pausing just to note that of your 100 songs, there were 44 for which I recognized the artists' names but not the song title, 1 for which I knew the song but the artist, and 12 where I knew the artist and song -- and 2 of those 12...

It's terrifying and tragic as far as he the overall health of our democracy is concerned...but I can't deny it wouldn't be damn hilarious if their stupid and corrupt strategies end up costing them elections.

Re: Project Northmoor - Save Tolkien's Home
This seems a bit odd to me cuz, isn't the Tolkien estate pretty darn rich? Hard to imagine they couldn't do this themselves if they wanted to.
