Re: What are you reading?
Ooh, yes I do, is that a thing you can do? I didn't know that!

Re: What are you reading?
The Earthsea trilogy is more of a traditional fantasy story. If you are looking to explore Le Guin as a writer, I'd go Earthsea, Left Hand, Dispossessed, as those show three very different sides of her talent. I just finished the first Earthsea book and very much enjoyed it! A lovely, wonderful boo...

Re: 2020 Election: Predictions, Results and Reactions
Unlike the first impeachment, where there were most certainly witnesses that could have been called that could provide new info we didn't already have, I'm not sure what point there would be to witnesses now. Everyone knows what happened and why. Is there anybody that can be called that could expose...

I am not familiar with Redwall, but I adore their Over the Garden Wall mini-series so they've got my attention.

Re: The Stock Market
So if the stock was steadily increasing in price since August what made the broker think it was going to go down instead? As someone who follows gaming very closely, people have been saying Gamestop was obsolete and dying for a while now. I happen to agree. They have way too much competition from h...

Re: Marvel Movie Madness
Here's the latest Falcon and Winter Soldier trailer. I'm not all that excited for this one (both of these were side characters for a reason imo), but perhaps Frelga will be happy to finally see Bucky getting more of the spotlight. :P https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=nifybT6FBO4 (PS - that big twist in ...

Would genuinely be interested in seeing a fact checker dive into that list and get a sense of how much of that stuff can genuinely be credited to Trump.

Huh? What mystical homeland?Frelga wrote: ....whose allegiance is to their mystical homeland rather than their place of residence.

Is the only parallel between the portrayal of dwarves and Jewish stereotypes the love of gold?

I hadn't heard of it either. I checked and it looks like it is based on a comic, I'm pretty sure that one isn't Marvel.

Re: Marvel Movie Madness
Wandavision: it's the kind of show that's built around a big "what's going on!?" mystery at the center and I find whether or not those kinds of stories ultimately work will really depend on whether the mystery gets resolved in a satisfying fashion, but for now - OMG I'm enjoying this show ...

Re: The last movie you saw Thread
Can't really disagree with that, Maria! And what's really crazy about it is that not only does the movie treat it like no big deal at all, like if it's barely even a weird thing and hardly worth commenting on, but there's also zero reason for it to be in the movie at all. You could seriously remove ...

Re: The last movie you saw Thread
Explanation in the spoiler tags as to why many, including myself, say that Wonder Woman committed a form of rape in this movie. So the plot of this movie revolves around this magical stone someone finds that can grant wishes. Wonder Woman upon getting her hands on the stone wishes that Steve Trevor,...

Re: The last movie you saw Thread
What did you not like about it, Yov? I really would like to know. The number of things wrong with the movie is very large and I could go on and on about it, but I would say that it has two huge problems: - the first WW worked mostly, imo, because Gadot and Pine had wonderful charisma and were very ...

Re: The Stock Market
The whole thing roughly reminds me of scalping, where you buy some hot, hard to get item in the hope you can resell it for more later. But I guess here you hope you can rebuy it for less later, I guess? Scalpers, btw, are loathsome scum who belong in a low rung of hell. I suspect short-sellers shoul...

Re: 2020 Election: Predictions, Results and Reactions
Without any rancour or recrimination, I'd love to know what your thoughts on all this are Yov. Do you think it was a disorganised rabble who were like a dog chasing a car who never expects to catch it? Were they just making a point, fully expecting to get stopped and then found themselves in the mi...

Re: 2020 Election: Predictions, Results and Reactions
Given the mob was screaming and breaking doors and busting windows, how was a security officer to know she didn't have a weapon? I'm sure many police officers will be glad to hear that liberals are actually okay with shooting people because "how was a security officer to know she didn't have a...

Finally got around to watching Wonder Woman 1984. It was probably the worst big-budget movie I've seen since Batman v Superman.

Re: What are you reading?
I had thought about mentioning Bradbury as an exception to my observation about poor writing in the genre. He writes beautifully, and Martian Chronicles is an all time fav.

Re: What are you reading?
Though I don't read nearly as much as an adult as I did when I was younger, I'm still surprised by how few of those books I've read. At a glance I think it's only Brave New World, 2001, and Rendezvous with Rama. Frelga's opinion that Le Guin writes beautiful does make me think I should give her a sh...
