Not strictly Dr. Who-related, but I've had my eye on this for some time:

I'll keep an eye out for it when I'm in the UK this October...

A quick ebay search on "region-free dvd player" brought up a whole bunch of choices, mostly between $50 - $100.

Here's one I picked at random for $50

I think after you buy a set of Tom Baker DVD's, the player will pay for itself!

I just watched a few of the old Tom Baker episodes.

It's odd that the people in the civilizations that they visit just happen to all have 1970's haircuts. What an unbelievable coincidence.

Anyone else a fan of the BBC series "Vera"? Starring Brenda Blethyn as Vera, a detective with "a messy personal life" who's very passionate about her job. Takes place in Northumberland, so you get to see an exotic part of the world (for us North Americans, anyway ;) ) - the diale...

What is the "Ultra-Violet" format they've been advertising? Is that the new high frame rate?

Hey, a Doctor Who thread!

I'm only up to the middle of Season 5. Is this thread full of post-season-5 spoilers?

I've heard a lot of criticism of Palin, but none of it was related to her career choices.

Oh, and send your mother-in-law this way. I'd like to have a word with her.

I like this one because when you look at it on its side (left-side-up), it looks like there's a fossil of an insect on top, and a primitive design for a spaceship on the bottom.

The only reason nobody remade Tolkien before was because it wasn't seen as lucrative. I suspect that has now changed. I think also the technical difficulties account for the delay in filming it (different heights of different races, the sheer length of the book(s), the development of CGI technology...

Thanks for the link - I listened to the samples and I believe I've chosen the version I want.

I haven't heard the whole piece through since my choir did it back when I was in university - way, way back in the last millennium.

I must say that I was pleased to find so many hard-left Democrats expressing their disgust at this thug's ignorant ranting. I would be very relieved to see us return to a day when, however much we argue among ourselves, an insult from someone outside the American family is taken personally by all. ...
