Re: Best single scene in film

The Karate Kid is another of my favourite films. The scene where Mr. Miyagi gets drunk and talks about his wartime experience and the death of his wife in childbirth never fails to move me. I can't believe the director wanted to cut this scene - it is the heart of the film! https://www.youtube.com/w...

Re: Best single scene in film

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Boromir's death scene in Fellowship. His final moments with Aragorn - "My Captain my king" would wring tears from a stone. Then, that was followed by the beautiful scene where they send his body over the falls. Gorgeous bit of cinema! Another of my favour...

Sauron, the ultimate narcissist/gaslighter, to Celebrimbor, whom he has been torturing: "Just LOOK at what you've done to yourself!" Dave, that really threw me for a loop! At first I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me! Maybe they realized they made a mistake killing him off? It cert...

Or course, I'm well aware of that, Narya! :D And that's why (most of) the strong women are non-canon!

Re: The all too early Season Two thread (possible spoilers)

Sooo...no one's going to mention Míriel's bravery in the most recent episode? I think I loved her scene in this episode more than any other I've seen so far! What courage! How about Disa, standing up to the dwarves? If there's one thing I love about this series it's the powerful women in it! I don't...

Re: Good music and other good stuff on youtube and Facebook

That's one thing I LOVE about Rings of Power - Galadriel can kick ass better than most of the men, and is still beautiful. And Disa is another really powerful woman... Then, there's the two little hobbits, Nori and Poppy, who show courage and compassion to the Stranger - two other strong female char...

Re: The last movie you saw Thread

Both Black Panther movies were very good. And I love the way both of them featured strong women! Suri is a real hoot, too! I loved her from the moment she gave her older brother the finger in the opening scene of the first movie! :D

Others commented on how Episode 5 of WandaVision was a real eye-opener. I skipped forward to Episode 4, and am now thoroughly hooked, and feeling a great deal of sympathy for Wanda and Vison.

Yeah, I know what it's like to lose people you love...

Re: The last movie you saw Thread

The book on which the movie is based is often required reading in High School or even Junior High English classes. It, too, is considered a classic! I recommend reading it, if you haven't. Jack Schaefer was a marvellous writer, much better than Louis L'Amour. His novel, Monte Walsh is in my top 10 l...

Re. the dragon tattoo picture Alatar posted, where the dragon appears to be alive - that's the theme for the Dragonback fantasty trilogy written by Timothy Zahn: Jack Morgan has a dragon on his back - literally. The warrior K'da species are symbiotes, can only live six hours without their humanoid h...

Re: Frazetta LOTR Images and Fantasy art beyond Tolkien

Many years ago, I was introduced to Janny Wurt's fantasy writing. I soon found out her husband is a well known fantasy artist, Don Maitz. I have one of his paintings as a screen saver on my computer. It's called Chasing the Wind. I love the sense of movement! Chasing The Wind Don Maitz.jpg For many ...

Here's the updated link to the Frazetta museum, plus most of the other links, which are now dead: You're right, he's one of the very few fantasy artists I've seen where the women are as scantily clad as the men! https://www.frazettamuseum.com/ Escape From Venus: https://www.ebay.ca/itm/224720...

Re: Good music and other good stuff on youtube and Facebook

I was a fan of The Monkees when I was in my teens. Every time I see a post about them on FB someone has to say they weren't a real band, didn't play their own instruments, yadda, yadda, yadda, totally ignoring the fact that two of them were already talented guitarists and songwriters before the four...
