Re: What are you reading?
I've been complaining, to anyone who would listen (not that anyone did) that I can't find any good hard sci fi, especially non-military hard sci fi. Well, I just found it. Delta-V by Daniel Suarez is a near-future thriller so chock full of physics, chemistry, metallurgy, rocket science, internationa...

Re: What are you reading?
Sadly, among my 12 library cards on Libby, I can find only one novel and 4 short story collections by Lowell, none that you mentioned, Maria. On the other hand, I have a choice of 68 books by Buroker, including the Dragon Blood series. My 'to read' tag list is getting way too long to finish in this ...

Robertson was one of my brother Gregg's favorite artists. Gregg has Robertson in heavy rotation on his radio streaming service right now. Re: Nature Pics
Frelga, Tilden is such a lovely place! I took a walk in Heather Farms Park in Walnut Creek today. The park has a small lake and a formal garden. I saw a surprising variety of fauna and flora, including slow-moving, algae-clad, red-slider turtles; sonorous bullfrogs; brightly flashing bluebirds; furr...

Peake uses about 7 million words where he could use one. I speak like he writes. I love the world he created, the unending, pointless ceremonies that no one actually knows the real reason for. I could go on for several days about what I love in this book. While I was reading it, I chose one word th...

Re: The 10 sci-fi/fantasy books that mean the most to me
Hi, my name is Narya, and my life has become unmanageable. :P Well, where books are concerned. I've read about 200 books (some more than once) in the past 2 years since I retired and discovered Libby, and was able to partially slake my pent-up thirst for books. But every time someone mentions a grea...

Sounds like a condemnation of all things "urban". And "urban" is a dog whistle for People of Color.

Currently crying to this one (because a friend just died):
Aram Khachaturian - Gayane Ballet Suite (Adagio)
Anything else by Khachaturian will buoy me up, but this one pulls on my heart strings.

Time to check in again. My book consumption has decreased, I think, because I’ve succumbed to YouTube. In particular, the podcast “Ty and That Guy”, which has the two-pronged approach of discussing an episode of The Expanse in detail, often with a member of the crew, such as a cinematographer or dir...

[To the young men from Rohan who did not want to continue to Mordor.] 'Go!' said Aragorn. 'But keep what honor you may, and do not run! And there is a task which you may attempt and so be not wholly shamed. Take your way south-west till you come to Cair Andros, and if that is still held by enemies, ...

Re: Russia's Invasion of Ukraine
I visited Lithuania for a few days in 1980. The people I spoke with were adamantly not Russian and not part of the Soviet Union by choice. They railed against having to publish everything in Cyrillic instead of the Latin alphabet they used before they were annexed because it was erasing their writte...
