Voronwe- I am not saying there is a defined political agenda that is strictly liberal that desires to eliminate religion, just that the only people I have encountered who do could never be mistaken for conservatives based on the rest of thier agenda. I don't consider liberalism fundamentally destruc...

I am content to disagree with you on that, but will have to leave it at that. I feel that my posts are actually distracting from the true topic of the thread once I disagreed with Frelga, which wasn't the goal.

If you are asking for a book or article reference, I don't have that to offer. Between my college years and then my career experience, I have had the experiences I have referenced. I am not well traveled or anything, so my experience is from where I live. I had multiple professors and quite a few cl...

I mentioned that many if not most liberals are religious. The most signifigant opponents to marriage I have met are individuals with liberal values who also despise religion, and they focus a large part of that angst against marraige and organized churches. Be they athiests or individuals who feel t...

I understand many of your points much better now. I don't know that I would agree that the fight against same sex marriage has become the biggest threat against marriage itself. I see most oppositon to the institution of marriage based on its linkage to religion or because of the cost of its solvenc...

So would a civil union make it any easier for the international stuff? I am guessing not. Perhaps this has already been hashed, but I find it interesting that the FEDS have a specific definition for marriage. It isn't spelled out in the Constitution, so that shoud be deferred to the states, which me...

Ethically, organizations should have been identifying the use of things like Photoshop long ago. I find it unfourtunate a law has to be passed to compel it, but in the limited context of notifying the viewer it is a modified image, I think that is acceptable. Many people have unrealistic expectation...

Jewelsong- You are welcome, and thank you for a measured response back. Most of the legal benefits that are obtained through marriage can also be arranged through other legal means, like powers of attorney, will and trusts, can't they? I don't spend much time dealing with executing civil law, just d...

JEWELSONG- I see your point but I don't think it is that convoluted. I can support the idea without casting a vote. My reasons for not voting on behalf of gay marriage have little to do with the issue. I won't vote for it because of principle. In general, people regardless of political leanings want...

Correlation between political views and religiousness?

[I split this off from the Same Sex marriage thread. Folca, feel free to change the title if you would like. And if anyone feels that there posts either should or should not have been moved let me know and I'll see what can be done - VtF] I am a staunch Republican and very conservative but could ca...

Can't bring myself to see the movie...I know it is a young adult series of books, but the movie looks and had been declared too sanitized and prettied up. The casting is obviously for eye candy over an attempt to capture the essence of the characters portrayed. Katniss especially should have been ca...

Having played the role opposite Beatrice in Much Ado About Nothing, I must say she is my favorite woman from Shakespeare and I would love to find a similarly fiesty and sharp witted woman to capture my heart and mind. But I need her blended with Éowyn. I need someone who can stand being with someone...

Yes, I am referring to Middle Earth Quest. In general I think Fantasy Flight has done rather well in capturing the feel of Middle Earth in the games they have produced and hope the trend continues. In the US I don't believe it will be available until October...Drat it all!

As a casual update to this, I have played Confrontation, and like it alot. The new mass battles game, "War of the Ring" from Games Workshop is great in concept but has some pretty severe flaws, especially regarding cavalry. And, Fantasy Flight is coming out with another Middle Earth game t...
