male nude

I just saw your male nude drawing, Yov--it's fantastic! You really did an outstanding job on it. The hair, the shadows---all very well defined. I'm sure you know it'll make some people turn away, though. I did almost nothing but nude females during my oil painting years, (1980-1990) because I enjoye...

I hope and pray you are right, Voronwë. I worry about his safety, knowing that this world is so full of hate. Sam

anti-obama-ism

I have a very good friend who supports Hillary. He has always been very pro-democrat. He knew that I supported Edwards, but then switched to Obama when he dropped out. I had to go have a talk with him yesterday because he wouldn't quit emailing me anti-Obama stuff. I asked him "Do you think a h...

clintons

I have been a fierce defender of the Clintons for years, but now I'm pretty disappointed in them. The welfare of the country should be number one, but I'm afraid that takes a back seat to her getting the nomination in their minds. Mahima, please don't take this wrong---I've just seen your new pictur...

That's quite a rash statement to actually blame the helo failure on Carter. The failure was a result of SAND being sucked into an engine. Perhaps Carter was launching dixie cups full of it into the intakes with a slingshot? There was a natural decline in military spending after the Vietnam war ended...

ill-fated rescue

I knew someone who was part of that ill-fated rescue. One helicopter had a malfunction, which caused the whole mission to fail.

politics and war

I hope Obama rolls right over her, too. I still thought well of Hillary up until a couple of weeks ago, but her "say or do anything to win" attitude has turned me against her. Oh, I'll vote for her over a republican, but I'll have to hold my nose to do it. I'm with you, yov. I'm a Vietnam ...

kitchen sink

I enjoyed it, probably just because it was great to see Beatle music get so much attention. Many of the characters were pale shadows of the ones they supposedly represented. (ie, J.J. and Hendrix) I think that was an old Aqual lung-looking Joe Cocker I saw flexing his cement mixer chords. The makers...

Across the Universe

I wanted to see it in the theater but couldn't get others on board. I rented it and will be watching it tonight. I was a big Beatles fan and saw their very first US exposure on the Jack Paar show, November '63, I believe it was. Even my 16 year-old son realizes that the really great groups came out ...

great music

That is a beautiful piece of music and that raven-haired actress is beautiful too. The chorus reminds me of some south pacific singing I've heard. Also, the song very much has the feel of many old American hymns, which of course got their sound from across the sea.

I'm with you Vison. Some people may indeed deserve death, but If we are to think of ourselves as "civilized" then I don't think we should give it to them. Their punishment will come one day, and it will be meted out by one who is qualified to do so.

rolling stones favorites

1)"It's only rock n roll"
2)"Jumpin' jack flash"
3)"Sympothy for the devil"

The first two choices came easy to me but I had to think a bit on the third one.

Elvis and daughter

That was nice, Al. Thanks for sharing it. I don't think I'd ever heard Lisa Marie sing before. I don't think most people who are younger than me can truly understand just how big of a star Elvis was, especially here in the southern US. I liked the young, hot-legged Elvis much better than the latter-...

drawing

Your drawing is excellent, Yov. Your shading is outstanding and the texture of the couch is great. Don't worry about "cheating a little" because some of the old masters did it too. It is thought that they used mirrors to project an image onto the canvas so they could trace it. I used to ha...

mind/body discrepancy

My three sons are all spread out in age from 38 all the way down to a 15(almost 16) year-old who's still at home. When I try to tell the young one that I very much understand what it's like to be his age, he doesn't believe me. (Of course) When I pick him up at school I sometimes say "Oh, she's...

saddle

Sure, you can buy a different saddle, but it will need trimming too in order to establish the correct string height. Most cheap guitars come with a plastic saddle, but you can upgrade them by replacing it with a bone saddle. The nut also can be replaced with a bone nut.

guitars

You've got a nice sound PrinceAlarming. I like a lot of different kinds of music but am only somewhat competent at playing acoustic guitar. As for that high action, you know that can often be easily fixed. Even expensive guitars can come with bad action and require shaving down of the saddle or trus...

old?

My aging problem is especially accute. I've been living with half a heart since age 43 (I'm now 59) but I still think like I did when I was 17. (in most ways, at least) I feel like a Corvette with a lawnmower engine under the hood!
