I refuse to say one LotR movie is "better" than the other two. The Two Towers is just full of magic moments and I love it dearly. They are the bestest movies ever made and I wouldn't be here if not for them. Probably none of us would. With that said, If I had my way, the three movies would...

Heller's book
Well of course you're right, Voronwë, but the movie version did the same thing for "Catch 22" that PJ's movies did for LotR. I don't know that I would ever have read Heller's book.

Catch 22
Another movie I saw around the same time as "Clockwork" was "Catch 22". I also thought it was full of deep meaning that I didn't fully understand when I watched it as a twenty-something young fellow. I watched it again the other day and decided its' message wasn't very deep at al...

piano
I wish I could play a piano, Traz. My youngest son took lessons for about four years and claims he hated it. I'm hoping that someday he'll change his mind and go back to it. I play several stringed instruments too, but the only one that I'm very good at is the guitar, and playing it is getting harde...

old bands
Isn't it great that these "old" bands can still stir such enthusiasm? Actually, the Police, Dire Straights and AC/DC all came on the scene in 1979 (in the US at least) making them relative new-comers to an old rocker like me. As I remember it, all three of the Police's members, Copeland, S...

TTT
Weighing in here, I believe PJ has said that he was not satisfied with certain parts of the 3 movies. No matter how good of a job we've done, don't we always look back and say "I wish I'd done this different or....."? I know I do. We could go on forever criticising this part or that part o...

Greetings Farawen! I like your name, mine's Samwarg, but you can call me plain old "Sam".

value of life
That's right Mahima. If it's your son, daughter, brother, etc, that's shot then it's going to be very important to you. These are dark days for our nation.

skirting around the unmentionable
[Note: I moved this post from the main Virginia Tech thread in Tol Eressëa - VtF] No matter how twisted the killer was, he would never have been able to carry out his sick desires without those guns. Yeah I know, an explosive subject, right? I own a couple of guns myself and I grew up in a culture ...

buy oranges?
No, I didn't buy any oranges, Meli. I did get hungry and go to a strange restaraunt, though. I didn't know my WWII history very well at the time and went, of all places, to the "Yamato" Japanese restaraunt. Why on earth I went to Hong Kong and then chose an inappropriately-named (for an Am...

meli from la
I'll bet you will get along fine with Meli, Primula, especially if you like to talk about scruffy rangers. You could say that she has a "thang" for them. My new thingy is a picture of a Hong Kong fruit market that I took in December of 1972. I took it with my brand new Mamiya/Sekor 35 mm s...

welcome!
Somehow Meli's arrival here escaped me. Greetings fair Melianndoriath! Look out HOFers, this one sets the example for Ranger-adoring. Like Rowanberry and Old Tom, I've known Meli from a previous existence. Her enthusiasm for all things Tolkien is unparalleled.

Meli!
Well I'll be a horn-squabbled mule! Are you Meli from LA? If you are, I hope you didn't trace me here by all my old geezer parts that keep falling off. Say, that fellow with the sword looks kinda familiar. Didn't he used to hang out with a lot of short people? Movies? Are we talking about movies? Ye...

Reign over me
You are probably correct about the title, Voronwë. I'm having more and more senior moments lately and can't remember names and titles especially, but Adam Sandler has recently had a few other fairly serious roles in which I thought he did very well. I'm no authority on such things, but I'd say Sandl...

play the vocal chords
That's great that you play the vocal chords, Kam, because not everyone can. I say that because my wife can't match pitch or carry a tune. I have a relative (my late first cousin's grandson, whatever that makes him) who plays a kitchen sink. No kidding, I'm serious. He's a kind of nomadic wanderer (S...

Reign on me
We saw this movie last weekend. I think It's safe to say that Adam Sandler is capable of being a first class actor, and his performance in this movie bears that out. It's definately a tear-jerker and will touch the emotions of many people. I can't remember the black actor's name that plays opposite ...

ukulele
I forgot to tell y'all about it, but I got a new ukulele for my birthday a while back. It's an "Applause" and it plays really great. It's tiny little neck makes me appreciate how the late Iz could've played his so well with his huge fingers.
