Re: Hamas' "50th Anniversary" Attack on Israel
Among the released hostages was a 9yo Irish-Israeli Emily Hand. Her family initially believed her to be among the murdered children. The Taoiseach (Irish Prime Minister) Leo Varadkar said: "An innocent child who was lost has now been found." This provoked many angry replies, including Isra...

Re: What are you reading?
I think I tried LibriVox, years ago. If it's the site I'm thinking, it's recorded by volunteers so the quality of narration varies wildly. But they had a wide selection, including books that are out of print and don't exist in the audiobook form.

Yes, they hold up very well. The new one picks up where Network Effect leaves off, so you can probably just reread that one.
Fugitive Telemetry was published later but takes place earlier. It's a fill-in-quel, I guess.

Got the latest Murderbot book, System Collapse, from Libby. It's a fun thriller, feels like there's more non-stop action than in the previous books. Possibly because our favorite Murderbot has gone through a lot of character development, which is great, but it does mean that its interactions wirh hu...

Scoop: Mossad chief visits Qatar to discuss final details of hostage deal Michael Weiss comments: I'd be shocked if another item on the agenda weren't Qatar's continued hosting of Haniyeh, Marzook and Mashal. Otherwise Mossad's next visit to Qatar may not be publicized. The comment is mostly indica...

Re: Russia's Invasion of Ukraine
On that note. Swiss authorities have launched an investigation against the Polish company UMO SP. The Swiss are mad about the Poles exporting 145 000 Swiss sniper cartridges and 500 000 rounds of rifle ammunition to Ukraine. Well…sometimes things get lost and end up in Ukraine 🤷♂️ 🇵🇱🤝🇺🇦 Swiss are t...

Can they just leave them fueled and unattended for a few minutes? I TOLD YOU I WASN'T JOKING! The 🇵🇱Polish military dismantled about 10 MiG-29 fighters and left them in parts in a forest near the border with 🇺🇦Ukraine. Kyiv was informed about "lost" parts, which were then picked...

At my, generally reasonable but not bargain basement, grocery store, I could get 18lb of fresh organic turkey for $75. Or 20lb of fresh "natural" turkey for $40. Large chain stores also seem to charge just under $2/lb for non-organic birds.

Cake Boss makes for nice undemanding watching for stressful days. It's like Godfather with the Italian family dynamics but with more cake and less guns.

Re: The challenges ahead (Biden's America)
I mean... Does Xi object to bring called a dictator? Also what kind of a non-serious gotcha question was that? Biden couldn't possibly say that China is a democracy. It doesn't claim to be one.
