Re: More Tolkien Movies coming?
At least with those characters they will have more canon material to work with.

Re: The Balrog(s); Origins and Influences?
If they are based on Surtr then we have a defintive answer: fire giants don't have wings.

Re: Episode 8 (Spoilers)
I thought it the best of the Season, in fact it was the only one I've been able to get through in a single sitting. this might be because there was only three threads to follow, no Arondir/Bronwen making eyes at each other and no dwarves. I wish there has been more on Sauron's influencing of the elv...

Re: Discussion about the Discussion about RoP
Imagine we are remaking Seven Samurai except they are cowboys. Actually, imagine making lots of movies about cowboys and they are all white protestant men. Real history has been whitewashed over and over. False analogy. I specifically said setting it in the mythic ages of China. Redo in the 18th Ce...

Re: Discussion about the Discussion about RoP
Then why is a fictional history fair game for rewriting even up to its fundamentals? Why is it not accorded the same default respect? So it doesn't seem logical to pretend that any part of Middle-earth is intended to reflect Western Europe, let alone a specific portion of it, with any degree of acc...

Re: Discussion about the Discussion about RoP
I get where you're coming from Aravar. Its absolutely possible to have huge problems with TROP and not be a racist troll. The problem is that its been completely hijacked bu those with an agenda, and its not limited to Tolkien. The same thing happened to She-Hulk, Miss Marvel, Star Wars, Sandman an...

Re: Discussion about the Discussion about RoP
I read an article yesterday in the NYT: Hobbits and the Hard Right: How Fantasy Inspires Italy’s Potential New Leader. It's an issue. Giorgia Meloni, the nationalist politician who is the front-runner to become prime minister, sees “The Lord of the Rings” as not just a series of novels, but also a ...

Only if you take it that way. And for the record, I took it from a post on Facebook by someone is a far more knowledgeable and accomplished Tolkien scholar and Tolkien purist than I ever could aspire to be. I'm afraid I do take it that way. As for the person being more purist than you, I don't mean...

Re: Discussion about the Discussion about RoP
When wolves dress in sheep's clothing, it doesn't mean that all who appear to be sheep are actually wolves. But it does mean that some that appear to be sheep are actually wolves. Voronwë, I accept that that is what you mean and intend. But in my view that is not what the meme itself suggests. It d...

Given that I regard myself as a purist and did on TORC you might want to rethink that Voronwë.

Re: The Hobbit Jackanory
I remember watching it when it was first broadcast. I feel old. Bernard Cribbins was excellent as Bilbo and, I think could have played him on a film. I also prefer Maurice Denham's take on Gandalf to both Michael Hordern in the Radio adaptation and Sir Ian. He captures a certain irascibility which t...

Re: Episode 4 (Spoilers)
I think Elendil reacted to the petals too. I think Pharazon's speech was better at setting out the Númenórean sense of superiority, rather than the lazy "they took our jobs" them in the previous episode. The series still has not come to grips with the other side of the coin: fear of death ...

I think the Koh I Noor was taken from a feudal ruler, long before the republic of India existed.
Not sure where they got it from. I'm sure it was totally legitimate.

No this is tabletop 5th Edition D & D set in Middle earth. However there is a site called Roll 20 which allows you to have a virtual tabletop.
The LOTR game was face to face with Heliona and some other Torcers.
Alatar beat me to it.

We played this about three years ago. I'd love to play again, its just the difficulties of getting everyone together especially with other online D & D going on.

Re: The Passing of Queen Elizabeth II
Of course, London will be mobbed, which is part of the problem. Perhaps people at her hotel can help out with suggestions for alternatives? As Aravar has suggested, the Maritime Museum at Greenwich (and the Royal Observatory) is very good, and on the south side of the river, so away from all the fu...

If you go to Court in England and Wales nowadays security will make you take a sip of any bottle you're carrying. BTW the hall is at Westminster not Windsor. They're a fair distance apart! Its part of the Palace of Westminster/Houses of Parliament and the only bit that survived the fire in the 1830 ...

Even though this is about Sandman, I'll share it here because I think the sentiments fit perfectly https://theconversation.com/the-sandman-a-masterclass-in-unfaithful-adaptation-190110 That article also repeats the favoured revisionist argument back on TORC, essentially films and books are differen...

Re: Rings of Power musical score
I've only heard the music in the show itself and not listened to it separately yet. I love the main theme which seems to me to be a natural progression by Shore from the music of the films. However some of the incidental music reminds me more of John Willams and Star Wars which I find a bit jarring:...
