Re: Games, Riddles, Puzzles, and other Distractions
I thought today's Strands was extremely enjoyable. After many, many (many many many) rejected guesses, I was a bit shocked when it accepted circumflex . After that, the rest fell into place. There were so many of them in the grid, I thought the theme was going to be "different ways to pronounc...

Re: Games, Riddles, Puzzles, and other Distractions
Connections made a point of telling me less than 1 in a million people did things my way today. I guess that happens when you make mistakes.

Yeah, in these cases, the rate-limiting factor ends up being how quickly you can move the cursor to the next word

Re: The biggest question
Ok; now that you say that, I remember thinking the same thing. The eagle looked like it had arrived to bless Míriel's coronation, but then one dude shouts that it favors Pharazon for some reason, and everyone just goes along with it...

Re: The biggest question
Their use of the Eagles as messengers of the Valar was bass-ackward, as they tried to use the Eagles to show that Pharazon was the legitimate ruler, which made no sense. Unless they've been trained to believe Eagles come from the Valar, but this one was just a normal eagle; maybe even one that had ...

They're pairs. Take one from the top plus one from the bottom.

Re: Games, Riddles, Puzzles, and other Distractions
By my count, there are 4 5-letter English words that end with the final four letters of today's solution. One of them was already ruled out by the time I locked down the ending, but I had to guess all three of the remaining candidates before I got the one they wanted. :x Better than failing, but now...

And I dislike it when they use movie titles. Basically every English noun is a movie title at this point.

I'm proud to say I actually figured out the purple category today; suspect it's going to be a process of elimination guess for most. Also:

Yeah, thanks you little ♥♥♥♥. I picked the wrong four out of a group I realized too late had five. Surprised it was that uncommon.ConnectionsBot wrote:This was a creative guess! Fewer than one percent of players made it.

Games, Riddles, Puzzles, and other Distractions
Today's Connections was rated 3/5 difficulty, which I find odd given that 2 of the categories had five valid choices (arguably six in one case), and there was at least one valid group of four that wasn't in the answer. To avoid those traps, you've basically got to solve the full puzzle in your head ...

Re: Join me in a re-read of the Lord of the Rings?
To expand on that a little, it is obviously ok for Gandalf to be wrong sometimes (and he could weasel out of this one by pointing out that he didn't technically say it was Sauron, just that it could be; though hopefully he'd have too much integrity for that), but since Gandalf is the story's sage an...

Re: The all too early Season Two thread (possible spoilers)
B plausibly argues there was likely a cut scene where Gil-Galad used his ring to heal Arondir. This would explain both his recovery and his sudden fast friendship with the non-Galadriel ringbearers, and in a narrative sense would have helped establish the healing power of the rings before it became ...
