A little later than that.

Re: The Tolkien Translation Game!
Also, anyone saw the post that I made earlier before I edited to correct it, it correctly reads:
"I will say that it was said by (but not to) someone who was a descendent of Finwë's (though not of Míriel's).

Yes, the speaker is a descendent of Fingolfin.
The speaker is also, however, a descendent of Húrin's, in the same degree.

Why?

Re: The Tolkien Translation Game!
Found it by accident, when I was trying to see if it was said by Idril:
"Choose thou, for now I am weary of the world."

Yup. Eärendil is both Fingolfin's and Húrin's great-grandson.

If there was anything that depressed him more than his own cynicism, it was that quite often it still wasn't as cynical as real life.

The dumbest thing I've ever bought
was a 2020 planner.
"Does anyone ever think about Denethor, the guy driven to madness by staying up late into the night alone in the dark staring at a flickering device he believed revealed unvarnished truth about the outside word, but which in fact showed mostly manipulated media created by a hostile power committed to portraying nothing but bad news framed in the worst possible way in order to sap hope, courage, and the will to go on? Seems like he's someone we should think about." - Dave_LF

Re: The Tolkien Translation Game!
If it helps, the translation is very close to the original.

Did you use funnytranslator.com? My experience has been that the translations that go through that program either change very little, or become completely unrelated to the original, without any middle ground.

Great! It's been a long time since it has worked for me. Hopefully it will continue to work.
