“There, peeping among the cloud-wrack above a dark tor high up in the mountains, Sam saw a white star twinkle for a while. The beauty of it smote his heart, as he looked up out of the forsaken land, and hope returned to him. For like a shaft, clear and cold, the thought pierced him that in the end the Shadow was only a small and passing thing: there was light and high beauty for ever beyond its reach.”

OK, I know I'm jumping in late here but, oh well. Just my thought, but I doubt they would cast Orlando Bloom as anything other than Legolas. Heck, theaters are already investing in industrial shop-vac machines to clean up the fan girls' slobber once he hits the screen. (Only half joking there!)
Looking at all the cast that hasn't been cast yet, I'm wondering if the producers are deliberately holding out on us. Now that they've seen the publicity that fans on the web can generate, they might be keeping us on pins and needles regarding Elrond, Bard, Thranduil, etc. I'm willing to bet money I don't currently have that these parts are signed but no announcements have been made to increase speculation. Any thoughts?

An Ethelwynn is never late. She posts exactly when she means to.
(Or something like that.)
And I agree with. (I also love your profile picture.)

Tosh, you rascal!
Anyway, the rumours about Tennant for Thranduil and Fassbender for Bard seem to have gone away for the moment, but I wonder how far off the mark they actually are...

There is magic in long-distance friendships. They let you relate to other human beings in a way that goes beyond being physically together and is often more profound.

Well, it was Deadline that started the rumour 6 months ago...
...they got the Nesbitt offer right, anyway!

Voronwë, please don't put me in the class with the Wizards. I don't want that level of responsibility. I'd do something hotheaded and then where would we be?
OTOH, I'm wondering if we can hold PJ culpable for any heart attacks or dizzy spells he's causing by the delay in announcing the full cast.

I don't know, with that shiny sword, who knows what might happen?Ethelwynn wrote:Voronwë, please don't put me in the class with the Wizards. I don't want that level of responsibility. I'd do something hotheaded and then where would we be?
On the other hand, that sentiment is pretty at odds with the one expressed in you signature quote, isn't it? It sounds to me like your ready for just about anything.

According to Jack at the Noldor Blog (an often unreliable source, I must say), Hugo Weaving has been spotted in Wellington. Given that PJ recently mentioned in a Facebook post that Rivendell scenes were coming up soon, this has naturally prompted speculation that he is there to film scenes as Elrond (despite the lack of any official announcements of his casting).
Scoop! Hugo Weaving spotted in Wellington!

Jackson confirms that Weaving in town, posting a picture of the two of them together on Facebook. But while most people seem to be taking this as confirmation of Weaving's casting as Elrond, Jackson's comment about the picture, "An old friend came to visit me on set today..." doesn't suggest that to me. It suggests that Weaving is just visiting. On the other hand, Jackson did say recently that they were going to be filming Rivendell scenes soon, so it does seem like quite the coincidence if Weaving was "just visiting" at just the time they were filming Rivendell scenes.
What say you?

I say I don't see why they're being coy about this. Tell us he's cast, or tell us he's not cast.
I do think it would be very odd for Weaving to make a friendly visit to the set shortly before the filming of Rivendell scenes with someone else as Elrond.
But again, what is the point of making no announcement? Unless perhaps negotiations are close to success but not quite there yet?

Me too. It's all very odd. Either say something clear, or don't say anything at all. I don't like vagueness. Never have, never will.

It's intriguing, isn't it? Can't see why they don't make an announcement one way or the other unless they haven't managed to strike the deal yet...being teased is annoying!
