Oh, sure, rabies-spreading trash digger is the cutest. But the hardworking insects who protect gardens from pests and pollinate your cucumbers get kicked out of the nature thread altogether.
If there was anything that depressed him more than his own cynicism, it was that quite often it still wasn't as cynical as real life.

In defense of the trash-digger, I believe there has only been one case of trash-panda transmitted rabies to a human in the US. :) And it was darn cute!
That said, I didn't mind the bees in the nature pics thread either. :D

In PTerry's defense, he had some pretty cool cat characters. Maurice is a genius and Greebo is a dashing anti-hero who defeats vampires.

Oh, back on track you said.

That's obviously Rivendell.

I disagree - that would be the perfect setting for The Misty Mountains.

But isn't Rivendell part of the Misty Mountains, geotechnically speaking?

My husband managed to track him about 1/2 a mile before it finally stooped on something. They have amazing vision.

And my contribution: Picture of him filming the eagles. You can barely see them in the tree at the top of the picture:

Really cool Maria! When we were up north last year an eagle swooped over the top of our car by just a few feet. It's amazing how BIG they are!!

One was flying around that same area when we went home for lunch today. I slowed the car to watch it fly by, and then it circled and flew the same direction we were driving, so I sped up to keep up with it. :D

We kept pace with it for several hundred feet, with it paralleling the road about 50 feet away and only 15 feet off the ground or so! :D Then we stopped and admired it from the road when it lighted in a tall tree. I didn't try to get a pic with my cell phone camera, because I already have the evidence above as to just how crappy it is at seeing an eagle in a tree. My husband shot his pics yesterday using a high def video camera that we use for judo tournaments. That's why we were able to get those really good stills- just pulled them off the video. :)

Anyway, I finally drove onto our driveway, and noticed there was someone right behind me. Ackk! I hope they saw the eagle too... and didn't think we were just nuts stopping in the middle of the road for no reason.

There was this weird ice formation yesterday morning in an upside down trashcan lid at our place.
I have no idea how it formed or even how it COULD form.

It's still in the trashcan lid, but now covered with snow. It's so strange. I don't understand how this could happen with gravity being what it is.
