I'm so grateful for our 50-year-old garden. Some bits are overgrown, but some, like this view, I think are perfect. That oak tree in back is more than three feet through the trunk—a very Tolkien tree, straight and comely.Voronwë_the_Faithful wrote:Prim, that is an astoundingly beautiful picture.

The beauty of it smote his heart, as he looked up out of the forsaken land, and hope returned to him. For like a shaft, clear and cold, the thought pierced him that in the end the Shadow was only a small and passing thing: there was light and high beauty for ever beyond its reach.”

That is a very pretty picture, Prim. But I am so tired that I read the above as saying:Primula Baggins wrote:Well, we woke up this morning to a surprise: a rare snowfall, and it is still coming down. My kids' play matinee was cancelled and they have unexpected free time...
My kids' play manatee was cancelled....

Oh, good heavens, Lali, our manatee hasn't missed a play date since 1991.
Best you get some rest!

A disappointed manatee is not something you want to take lightly, believe me.

Something you know we never indulge in around here, especially me.

I'm sorry, I can't maintain—that poor manatee! I shall send some pennies to the Society for Bucking Up Morose Sirenians.

They can be terribly rigid and controlling, Trazzie. If I had it to do over again, I'd get a tapir or something.

Lovely, Northerner—but I hope your trees all come through OK!

It's pretty, but ice storms scare me. In western Oregon the ground usually isn't frozen, and it gets saturated with rain regularly—so an ice-covered tree that starts to tip is very likely to fall, maybe onto a house or a car or a person. Big limbs can come down, too.
