That's gorgeous work!

Made of matchsticks? The spirit of Denethor lives on.

Oh, wow! My brother made a model of Amon Sûl, but that Minas Tirith is AWESOME!

(My brother's medium was more mundane than candy or matchsticks or yarn - he used more typical model building supplies...balsa wood, plaster....)

A 'real' one in resin can be seen HERE

What my brother did was more like this: HERE

His isn't painted yet, but other than that, looks quite nice. He followed directions from a German site, I think, but it looked pretty similar to what I linked.

And in keeping with the Easter theme, here comes The Lord of the Peeps.

I love the Shakespearean references thrown in. :D

Here's XKCD with a comprehensive Movie Narrative Chart for LotR (there are also charts for Star Wars, Jurassic Park, 12 Angry Men. . . .)

http://xkcd.com/657/

The image at the link is too small to read, but if you click on it you can get the huge one.

Somebody has way too much time on their hands, or is way too obsessed. In other words, a fellow geek.

The "12 Angry Men" one is amusing. It is a movie about 12 guys locked in a room together, but still....

I don't know what Primer is, so I don't get the joke.

But I do think that the LotR chart is very very pretty, and reminds me of some maps I've seen in history textbooks. It is immediately obvious we're looking at the movies, not the books, though ;).

I had to look up Primer to get the joke as well... it's a time travel movie where you can only go back in time such that there are duplicates of yourself whenever you do... apparently it's very confusing.

And yes, it's clear it's the movies, but the concept is cool enough that I forgave him for that ;)

The caption does clearly state that it is about movies in general. :D

But is is still too cool not to share 8)

I love xkcd. Often enough there is something that really tickles me. Such as this one. I almost posted a link about it here yesterday, but decided to hold back and see if someone else would!

Well, I was alerted by my film-geek son. xkcd is something I should read every day, but keep forgetting to.

Well, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday (or if you're me, late Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday) anyway ;).

There has only ever been one comic of his I didn't like (it was a global warming thing...), so I pretty much check it out all the time... although it does kind of annoy me when I don't get the joke right away...

See, I didn't even know when it's published! When I think of it I go to the site and click around at random.

Just in case anyone hasn't seen this on TORn, the matchstick marvel is finished:

Patrick Acton, the matchstick man of Gladbrook, Iowa has finished his model of Minas Tirith! New photos of the completed model appear on his website at matchstickmarvels.com. This is truly a labor of love. It looks beautiful. You now have a reason to take a road trip to Gladbrook to see the model in the museum dedicated to Patrick’s matchstick re-creations!

The sad thing is I stumbled on Matchstick Minas Tirith doing research for something entirely different, and was going to report on it here...but I don't have to now. The speed of geek is too fast. :D
