Pictures of Tolkien

Post by Voronwë the Faithful »

A whole bunch of pictures of J.R.R. Tolkien, many of them with his wife Edith, in later years. Very nice.

Gallery Package - J.R.R. Tolkien

(I will not comment on the few at the end, other than to say that they do not match my personal imagination of characters from The Hobbit, at all).

ETA: Thanks to geordie at TORN for the link!

Fabulous pictures!

I envy that lush English garden.
Mornings wouldn't suck so badly if they came later in the day.

These are wonderful! :) I've not seen many of these before. :)

I really love the ones of the Tolkiens laughing together.

I am dying to know what books the Prof is pointing to, or handling!

Edith is beautiful. Seriously. Very striking-looking in her old age. No wonder he called her his Lúthien! She also looks quite a character. ;) Feisty. :D Very piercing gaze ...

Their garden is amazing. Obviously well tended by the Gamgees. ;)

They look happy together in their old age. :) Makes me happy to know that, because from the Letters I realise that Tolkien had a fair amount of worries and stresses ... as we all do.
"Frodo undertook his quest out of love - to save the world he knew from disaster at his own expense, if he could ... "

According to geordie (who is a major Tolkien book collector), "the book in Tolkien's hand is the 1st Japanese ed. of The Hobbit."
