Whats in a name?

An Except from The Fellowship of the Ring, Substituting Actual Names of World of Warcraft Characters

Pudwhacker lead Fishburp to the Council chambers and there he found Furioso and several others that were seated in silence about him. Fishburp saw Bucketboozer and Dishwater; and in a corner alone Studmost was sitting, clad in his old travel-worn clothes. Furioso drew Fishburp to a seat by his side, and presented him to the company.

'Here, my friends, is the hobbit, Fishburp son of Drunktank. Few have ever come hither through greater peril or on an errand more urgent.'

He then pointed out and named those whom Fishburp had not met before. There was a younger dwarf at Dishwater's side: his son Chicknwaffls. Beside Bucketboozer there were several other counsellors of Furioso's household, of whom Hotgirls was the chief; and with him was Tasticakes, an Elf from the Grey Havens who had come on an errand from Cametokillu the Shipwright. There was also a strange Elf clad in green and brown, Lostdude, a messenger from his father, Roxyrooroo, the King of the Elves of Northern Mirkwood. And seated a little apart was a tall man with a fair and noble face, dark-haired and grey-eyed, proud and stern of glance.

He was cloaked and booted as if for a journey on horseback; and indeed though his garments were rich, and his cloak was lined with fur, they were stained with long travel. He had a collar of silver in which a single white stone was set; his locks were shorn about his shoulders. On a baldric he wore a great horn tipped with silver that now was laid upon his knees. He gazed at Fishburp and Psychocutie with sudden wonder.

'Here,' said Furioso, turning to Pudwhacker, 'is Bankbooty, a man from the South."

:rofl: Studmost? Fishburp? Lostdude?

My respect for Tolkien has increased. Thanks for the laugh, Alatar!
Take my hand, my friend. We are here to walk one another home.

"Tasticakes, an Elf from the Grey Havens. . . ." :rofl:

Makes me grateful that Tolkien had such a wonderful ear for names. (I mean, he didn't end up going with "Teleporno.")
“There, peeping among the cloud-wrack above a dark tor high up in the mountains, Sam saw a white star twinkle for a while. The beauty of it smote his heart, as he looked up out of the forsaken land, and hope returned to him. For like a shaft, clear and cold, the thought pierced him that in the end the Shadow was only a small and passing thing: there was light and high beauty for ever beyond its reach.”

<tries to envision the movie scene where we first meet Teleporno>

Haldir: Caras! Galadon! Where dwells the Lord Teleporno, and G—

Pippin: Tele what?

Haldir: Teleporno, and the La--

Merry: I'm sorry, did you say "Teleporno"?

Pippin: I thought he said "Teleporno."

Haldir: Look--

Merry and Pippin: "TELEPORNO"?

. . . It would be worse than Osgiliath.

And you wondered why Galadriel kept her Mirror dry unless SHE was using it.
If there was anything that depressed him more than his own cynicism, it was that quite often it still wasn't as cynical as real life.

Be careful what you wish for....

Furioso = Ruith (anger)

Lostdude = Erebnir (lonely man)

Psychocutie = Hwiniolwen (mad maiden)

Cametokillu = Lindagnir (thy killer)

Bankbooty = Rawmir (bank jewel) or Rondrhaw (vault flesh) or Rawteli (bank hindmost part)

Studmost = Maelui (lustful) or Onna (begets)

Hotgirls = Baindiss (beautiful young women)

Fishburp = Limlug (fish-dragon)

Pudwhacker = Hastalin (hack through a pool)

Tasticakes = Elocraim (cakes of delight)

Dishwater = Gwaurnen (dirty water)

Drunktank = Ylf (drinking vessel)

Chicknwaffls = Filigtelt (insecure birds :P)

Bucketboozer (see Drunktank)

Roxyrooroo = ???

Typical disclaimer: I don't have a clue when it comes to Sindarin, and nothing here shows proper lenition.

Let's be fair: some of the characters are dwarves and gnomes (who are less technophobic hobbits, really). There probably ARE a family of Stoors named the Bankbooties. :D

Mith, I tremble in fear lest the next crop of new members find your list before deciding on their screen names. :D

Judging from the character names, most WoW players are teenage boys of the most stupid variety. :rofl:

But, in Sindarin, they sound quite tolerable.

(And, thank goodness, Tolkien didn't use "Teleporno" in the LOTR... :P )

Run it by someone who actually knows Sindarin first. I recommend Breogan.
