Love how he got into the Gollum stance first.

Colbert looked like he was going to pee himself in excitement.

Was going to post that here myself, but in the YouTube thread in the Cottage... :D Priceless!
When the night has been too lonely, and the road has been too long,
And you think that love is only for the lucky and the strong,
Just remember in the winter far beneath the bitter snows,
Lies the seed, that with the sun's love, in the spring becomes The Rose.

Sunny, if you want to post it in the youtube thread in the Cottage, go ahead. Some people who avoid Lasto might find it amusing.

So I don't get it. If Jr clearly committed a crime, why hasn't he been charged yet? Why haven't any police come and got him?

I would put the likelihood of Junior ever being charged with a crime at about 2%. And the likelihood of the "police coming and getting him" at 0. If it were to happen it would almost certainly be done by the special counsel's office, at the end of his investigation, which is many months away.

But.....why? I genuinely don't know, who is it that is supposed to do the "charging" when people do this kind of thing? Like, if I were to punch you, you could charge me with assault and cops would come see me, right? Who would charge me if I committed I were to do some illegal dealings with a foreign state?

Why? Because Donald Trump, Jr. is the epitome of white privilege.

I am cynically wondering if this is all coming out now because Putin decided that Trump was too volatile to be effective for him. Putin is not a genius mastermind, but he has an excellent grasp on the Cold War style spy games.
If there was anything that depressed him more than his own cynicism, it was that quite often it still wasn't as cynical as real life.

And class privilege. I'm pretty sure I couldn't get away with this, but I'm not the child of a rich celebrity-turned politician. Also, my entire family would flat-out disown me if I got involved in something like this.

You bet mine would, too. Trump Jr's would not, unless it turns out to be in their absolutely collective self-interest to do so. Then I think he'd be kicked out. I think you hit even closer with class than with race privilege in this case.

Money is at the top of the pile. There's an Afrikaans proverb, "Geld wat stom is maak reg wat krom is." It translates to "Money doesn't speak, but it does make your way smooth" or "Money doesn't speak, but you can use it to make your crooked ways appear straight and narrow".

Indeed.

Oh yikes...

**quickly re-examines life
**realizes she's had no contact with lobbyists or campaign officials
**does have history of having pleasant and professional conversations with members of rival labs..including a very scary Russian (no, seriously, he looked like Frankenstein without the bolts)
**realizes this is only a problem if your boss is super insecure
**never applied for a high-level security clearance

Okay, I'm in the clear.
