When the night has been too lonely, and the road has been too long,
And you think that love is only for the lucky and the strong,
Just remember in the winter far beneath the bitter snows,
Lies the seed, that with the sun's love, in the spring becomes The Rose.

"NEW: Sources confirm that the decision to move Space Command to Alabama was an override by President Trump and is linked to his current impeachment.

The source told us Trump wants Alabama's Sens/Reps on his side after the US Capitol riot."
If there was anything that depressed him more than his own cynicism, it was that quite often it still wasn't as cynical as real life.

It holds if the incoming admin agrees or doesn't care. Though this should be easy to reverse, especially since it was so recent.

The most read story at the Washington Post is far from the most important story, but it is indicative of an aspect of Trumpworld: despite having 6 1/2-bathrooms in their mansion, Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner wouldn't let their Secret Service detail use any of them.

So the agents would drive several blocks to where Barack and Michelle Obama live to use the toilet the Obamas' security detail uses.

Until someone on the Trump security team made a nasty mess of the bathroom and didn't clean it up, so the Obama Secret Service agents banned the Trump/Kushner agents from coming back.

That led to the Secret Service renting a portable toilet for $3,000 per month.

Trump is defunding the police again.

Or trying to.

Yesterday he sent Congress a budget proposal that includes funding cuts for state and local police departments.

Something about the Russia investigation that we didn't learn until today, some four years after it happened:

In an FBI interview, Michael Flynn was asked if he had spoken with Donald Trump on December 29, 2016. He said he did not recall doing so.

But the FBI had Trump's calendar of events for that day, which showed that Flynn and K.T. McFarland had, or at least scheduled, a 5 p.m. meeting with Trump that day.

On that same day, Flynn had five phone calls with the Russian ambassador.

The information about the interview and the calendar was not mentioned in the Mueller report or in documents from Flynn's case previously made public. What the FBI was trying to determine was how much of Flynn's premature policy-making with the ambassador was his own doing, and how much was done on Trump's orders. I'm not sure they ever were able to figure that out.

The public has been misled about Flynn, and this often worked to Flynn's and Trump's advantage in the court of public opinion.

Many months after Flynn lied to the FBI and was caught and forced to resign, he was interviewed repeatedly by Mueller's investigations. And he went on lying to them for quite some time. And we're just learning about it now, after he's been pardoned for any crime that Mueller's team might have known about.

Nice illustrated list of "weird and dumb" moments during Donald Trump's presidency. Everything from the lawnmower boy to saluting a North Korean general.

"Shooting and Storming of the US Capitol in Washington DC"
A valuable record of the events, but also at times self-incriminating: the person who filmed that and posted it to Youtube, "Jayden X," is John Sullivan, who has been charged with aiding the rioters, and who liberal activists had come to view over the past year as an agent provocateur for his actions at other protests.

- - - - - - - - - -
Here J. Hoberman, who for decades was the top film critic at the Village Voice, considers Shooting and Storming in cinematic terms:

Capitol Records
A documentation of violent death, Shooting and Storming is, like the Zapruder film and the footage in Albert and David Maysles’s Gimme Shelter (1970), cinema as forensic evidence. Beyond that, it suggests a solo version of oppositional documentary films—although where the activist docs produced by the Film and Photo League, the Newsreel group, and, more recently, the Syrian collective Abounaddara, are designed to inspire thought, Shooting and Storming is purely Dionysian. The attitude toward criminal behavior seems essentially nihilist. What’s most troubling is the resemblance to the participatory cell phone reportage of the Iranian Green movement and the Arab Spring, blurring the line between a popular uprising and a Brownshirt putsch.

CNN's Daniel Dale has compiled:

The 15 most notable lies of Donald Trump's presidency

It's not a ranked list but a list by category, from "the most dangerous lie" to the "the most hucksterish lie" to "the biggest lie by omission."

- - - - - - - - -
Also at CNN, Harry Enten notes that Donald Trump's approval rating has plummeted in the last ten days. He's at 38% (with 58% disapproving). Enten believes this puts Trump behind Jimmy Carter, whose very low ratings surged in his last weeks.

I'm sure Trump had visions of a well-regulated army valiantly storming the capitol with gloriously heroic music and doing away with his enemies. Instead he got a deranged mob with dead animals on their heads wearing pajama pants. These are not patriots. They are an unhinged, undisciplined chaos and mayhem mob, just like their Dear Leader.

As for the poor woman, Ashli, lies can kill. Trump's lies (and lies on top of lies) brought her to that point. Trump and those who enabled him have blood on their hands. Same goes for the officers and others who died. It's a pitiful shame.

As an aside, I never understood the 'God, Guns, and .... ' line.

It's just sad. All the way around.

Just a reminder that "T****'s America" often pre-dates T**** by quite a bit.

Yeah, things have been tragically messed up in Michigan for quite some time. The disenfranchisement of the poor (and often people of color) has to be defeated. Gerrymandering (everywhere) needs to be done away with as well. It does not serve the citizens of this country well.
