From TORC posting (it's not on forums, so you don't need to be registered)
On Saturday, May 24th, Peter Jackson and Guillermo Del Toro will be at a live internet chat hosted by Weta to discuss, as they put it, "The Hobbit and its companion movie."
Weta are excited to be hosting this one-hour live online chat on our website www.wetaNZ.com. Please check the start time for your time zone below:
Los Angeles (Pacific) - Saturday 24 May 1 pm
New York (Eastern) - Saturday 24 May 4 pm
London - Saturday 24 May 9 pm
Paris, Berlin, Rome - Saturday 24 May 10 pm
Sydney - Sunday 25 May 6 am
Wellington, Auckland - Sunday 25 May 8 am
It seems everyone can submit a question, and then PJ and GdT will pick out 20 most common ones and answer them during the live event. Then they will take additional live questions.
If there was anything that depressed him more than his own cynicism, it was that quite often it still wasn't as cynical as real life.
I posted this here, with a bit more information included.
"Spirits in the shape of hawks and eagles flew ever to and from his halls; and their eyes could see to the depths of the seas, and pierce the hidden caverns beneath the world."
Friends, I registered for this chat and it's going to start in about 15 minutes. As it goes along I'll try to post here some of the questions and answers, assuming that I don't have technical hang-ups with the chat (being on a Mac), and can type fast enough to transmit what I read.
(Guillermo del Toro is on line, along with a couple Weta moderators, but nothing is happening yet.)
editing speed-type typos

It took me five minutes to screw up! My screen does not give me a Comment button (because I'm on a MAC?) Anyway ... seems like the chat will begin soon.
(I'll have to summarize this later ... bit lengthy)
Q: Hobbit in 3D?
A: Too early to tell. No plans to do so at this point
Editing in the comments about Gandalf:
Q: What do you envision Gandalf's roll will be? He goes off on his own and disappears in several sections. Do you want to stay faithful to the book or give him a more active role?
GdT: I believe Gandalf is meant to be used that way, coming and going in and out of the narrrative - perfect setting for those gaps that will be bridged by the second film
PJ: those gaps are great. Theres a lot of stuff going on which is distracting him (Gandalf). I’m pleased to be gretting Gandalf the Grey back for two more films. We were a little sad when the Gandy the White took over

GdT: write for rest of year and start early conceptual designs. 2009 will be dedicated to preproduction on both movies and 2010 will be the year we shoot both. Post production follows one film at a time with The Hobbit released in 2011 and F2 releast Dec 2012. That is the schedule as of now.
Q: Peter, what was it about Guillermo that made you feel he was the right guy to continue on the saga of ME.? Are the two of you on the same page for vision, direction and style? If you disagree, who wins?
Peter: will talk more about this later, but GdT has an understanding of fantasy - he's not frightened by it. He understands character, and how the power of any movie is almost always linked to how closely we id with the characters.
