Is it this one?

Still, I wonder if we shall ever be put into songs or tales. We're in one, or course; but I mean: put into words, you know, told by the fireside, or read out of a great big book with red and black letters, years and years afterwards.

The second sentence was hardly changed at all so I removed it. I can add back in if there's too little to work on.
Why do you hug him and fence himself like a burglar?

Is it Bard in chapter 15?
A tall man stood forward, dark of hair and grim of face, and he cried: "Hail Thorin! Why do you fence yourself like a robber in his hold? [...]"

That's good enough for me! :D Thanks, Al.

Here's the next one:
Oh dear! If they all hate me and me, this may be a better result than I wanted.

I'm reading Ann Leckie's Imperial Radch series, and this sounds exactly like something an AI ship would say.

Heh. I suppose this line does sound a little out of character for the one who says it.

How about this:
"Well, well! If only they all take such a dislike to me and my Sting, this may turn out better than I hoped."

Treebeard to Merry and Pippin: "You can sit on the floor, and I will lie down; that will prevent this drink from rising to my head and sending me to sleep."

That didn't change very much, did it?
"Spirits in the shape of hawks and eagles flew ever to and from his halls; and their eyes could see to the depths of the seas, and pierce the hidden caverns beneath the world."
