this should be easy:
Certainly, they crossed the sea. And should Middle A disappear and need to lose forever?

Does this refer to the drowning of Númenor?

No....its more closely connected to LOTR than Númenórean stories are.

Edit:Using a hyphen does not add the umlaut.

Númenórean. The accents appear automatically (magic courtesy of Voronwë). You just had a slight misspelling.
“There, peeping among the cloud-wrack above a dark tor high up in the mountains, Sam saw a white star twinkle for a while. The beauty of it smote his heart, as he looked up out of the forsaken land, and hope returned to him. For like a shaft, clear and cold, the thought pierced him that in the end the Shadow was only a small and passing thing: there was light and high beauty for ever beyond its reach.”

Ah! Thanks, Prim! That’s what I was trying to get with the hyphenated/non-hyphenated trials.

Is the "they" referring to Elves going across the Sea?

Galadriel to Gandalf:
Surely, they have passed over Sea, as almost all fair things beside. And must Middle-earth then fade and perish for ever?

Ouch!

I need to check my book; but I think it was Galadriel to Celebrimor, in Version B.

But, yes, your turn.

I didn't know there were two versions, but the quote I found was definitely addressed to Olórin.

So, new quote:
Even if I promise to take care of you, he never said I thought it was dangerous.

Are we back in LOTR?

Is it Frodo to Sam?

In one sense, you're half-right ("Samright"!), and in another sense, you're not right at all.

(Which means, it was somebody to somebody, and one of them is referenced by your guess, but in the wrong role)

Okay, so it was either said by Sam to someone other than Frodo, or said to Frodo by someone other than Sam!

There are two other possibilities, one of which is the correct one.

Okay, I guess it must have either been said about Frodo, or about Sam. Yes?

That's not the preposition you used in your original guess...

Okay, I'm thoroughly confused!

Original guess = "by Frodo" and "to Sam"

First response = One of Frodo or Sam is involved, but not in the role of the original guess, so it can't be "by Frodo" or "to Sam"

Second guess = either "to Frodo" (by not-Sam) or "by Sam" (to not-Frodo)

Second response = there are two other possibilities

Third guess = either "about Frodo" or "about Sam"

Third response (at least as I interpret it) = it's not "about" its either "to" and/or "by"

So, it's not "by Frodo" or "to Sam" or "to Frodo" or "by Sam" or "about Frodo" or "about Sam" but it references either Frodo or Sam?

I'm sure that when it all becomes clear, I'll go "duh! of course".
