Aren’t you smart, Frelga. I blanked.

In case you haven't guessed, it's from the Silmarillion.

It's spoken at a crucial moment for the history of the world.

Any guesses?

Should I choose an easier quote?

No.

No to the second question.

I'm holding off on making any guesses for now, since I had the last one before you. But if no one jumps in before too long I'll try my hand.

I’m assuming something about the wrath of the Valar but I’m in Donegal with no books to hand.

You're right, the wrath of the Valar is mentioned...

So, if this helps...

The Tolkien universe is filled with characters whom you could call superstars, characters whose names you'd only know if you post on a board like this one, and then everything in between. Even though this quote is from the Silmarillion, I think you could classify the speaker as one of the stars. Also, although (s)he doesn't have any lines in the PJ LOTR movies, (s)he is mentioned by name.

Hope this helps!

Is it Celebrían?

I'm pretty sure that Celebrían does not appear anywhere in The Silmarillion.

I notice that "foot" is in both the final and intermediate translations. Is it in the original? Or something similar?

Not Celebrían, no.

"Foot" is in the original quote.

I don’t know why I try when it comes to the Sil.

I just realized that we haven't brought it to the new page. No wonder it hasn't been solved yet!
Jude wrote: Here's how it ended up:
Besides using it as a foot, the anger of BARAR is not here.
Earlier on:
Not only does it need to be a foot, but there is no anger of BARAR here.
There. Now it's obvious, right?

Right!

It's Eärendil to Elwing: 'Here none but myself shall set foot, lest you fall under the wrath of the Valar'

That's the one!

(I was trying to give a subtle hint when I said that the speaker was one of the stars)

Ooooh... that was a clever hint, Jude.

Back to more familiar territory.

Could it be Faramir to Sam?
If there was anything that depressed him more than his own cynicism, it was that quite often it still wasn't as cynical as real life.
