That's a memorable passage, but is it a quote? I think it's narration. I have LotR shelved just to my right but my desk is so piled with papers and random crud (after a summer of desperately intense work) that I can't get at it without knocking things to the floor.

Yes, although the word that is capitalized is not actually capitalized in the actual quote.

This is pretty obscure, but is it Aragorn saying to Frodo "It is like lightning that leaps up from the hill-tops" when describing the white flashes that they saw coming from Weathertop that turned out to be Gandalf fighting the Nazgûl?

I like that bit very much, too, Inanna. In fact that whole wilderness leg of the journey. Tolkien really captures what it's like to be out in the wild places with night coming on.
