The Tolkien Translation Game!
Re: The Tolkien Translation Game!
Nope.
I'd say "earlier" but his timeline is kinda unclear.

Unique as in there is only One of Him?

Ah so Eru.

Re: The Tolkien Translation Game!
Incidentally I've read some essayists that speculate that Tom Bombadil actually is a manifestation of Illuvatar. I don't necessarily agree, but that's why I was wary of just saying "earlier" without an explanation.
Re: The Tolkien Translation Game!
It's from the Silmarillion proper, not the Ainulindalë or Valaquenta.

Think "Father lecturing His child."

Re: The Tolkien Translation Game!
Well that makes it obvious, but it also makes it obvious Voronwë knows the answer, so no point in my looking up the quote!

Since no one else has guessed: : 'Why hast thou done this? Why dost thou attempt a thing which thou knowest is beyond thy power and thy authority?'

Go ahead and post one, V. You know it's right, and Jude might not come here.

Hint! Hint!
“There, peeping among the cloud-wrack above a dark tor high up in the mountains, Sam saw a white star twinkle for a while. The beauty of it smote his heart, as he looked up out of the forsaken land, and hope returned to him. For like a shaft, clear and cold, the thought pierced him that in the end the Shadow was only a small and passing thing: there was light and high beauty for ever beyond its reach.”
